What's new

Coca cola has alcohol in it.....

think you mean REdbull?

yes, i think he said it as a joke. i didnt notice it untill somebody else picked on it.

by the way, i am going out right now to buy a redbull. i cant keep my eyes open, i am too sleepy.

The "recipe" apparently is ancient and is no longer applicable, and the alcohol was there to act as a carrier for the exotic oils during the manufacture. There is no added alcohol to modern soft drinks; if there is, it is in tiny, minute amounts and not even noticeable. You'd vomit long before you could drink enough to feel alcohol in those trace amounts. Plus, you'd get caffeine poisoning.

Here's the real kicker for the "absolutely no alcohol" people (which I fully respect, BTW) - Fruit naturally ferments the moment it leaves the plant. Everything from grapes, to berries, to citrus fruits, have natural wild yeasts in them. These yeasts immediately begin to consume the sugar in the fruit, and make alcohol.

So every time you eat fruit, you are ingesting measurable amounts of alcohol.

I cannot speak for God, but if I were to guess, I'd say He has no problems if you eat fruit from a tree that has natural alcohols in them.

by the way re the story

by the way I am surprised that this irrelevant post got up to four pages.. if we start analysing items that contain Alcohol then I doubt there will be much left in the food, medicine and toiletries. The cough medicines have them, disinfectants have them, aftershaves have them (aha that’s why Shave is Haram, Says the wildeyed Fatwa Khan).

Religiously speaking, the use of Alcohol for the sake of drinking to get drunk and intoxicated was declared haram. Its benefits and uses have been always acknowledged by Islam.

Stories like these feed the likes of Jamat Islami to start a march or call a strike and harass the public and businesses.
I am sure this will be hotly debated in a proTaliban website called friendsKorner with people calling for public hanging of the local manufacturers and fatwa factories going overboard about how to punish the general public who continues to drink it despite this “shocking” revelation.. thee is bound to be Zionist hand exposed in it…

Be careful...
there are extremist elements here as well..
a fatwa may be coming your way..

Even the malt drinks have alcohol in em.. but its a minute percentage..
and Id bet my..whatever you want me to bet that the fellows on my shoulders taking notes are bureaucrats that cant tell the difference between alcohol taken for intoxication.. or taken inadvertently..

no, i meant Redballs ;)

by the way, I remember in Saudia i once teased a local friend of mine. He used to wear this HORRID cologne; came in some potion looking bottle straight out of the movie Aladdin. It was pretty crappy.

turns out more conservative people try to avoid perfumes or colognes which contain alcohol. Kind of silly and extreme if you ask me. But for every man/woman his/her own. :)

Some cough and cold medicines, taken by all and sundry, are up to 17% alcohol by volume. ;)

I don't know the laws in their profundity, but even wine reduction is apparently permissible, and vinegar, something that has to pass through the stage of being alcoholic, is encouraged. Naturally occurring plant ethanol can't be avoided unless we become sworn carnivores, but if a fruit is fermenting and you could feel that familiar taste, feed it to the bin instead.

Even a 100% vol can be had for medicinal purposes. BTW if that doesn't burn you, no ailment can kill you!

Very true, if a fruit is that far gone, trash it.

There are videos on the web that show monkeys and elephants in Africa getting trashed by eating a lot of natural alcoholic fruits. Oddly enough, the animals seek these out when they are available!

In 1994, when I was doing my F.Sc my biology teacher told class that CocaCola has alcohol officially mentioned in their ingredients list, while Pepsi don't, but he was suspecious that Pepsi also would be adding it but not being honest about it.

I wasn't trying to "be smart" duh. It is a medical fact. Google it up and check for yourself. I have a single shot of whisky every night to clear my heart artries as per my physician's advise. Once I am done with the single shot, I drink up the rest of the bottle :D

Well ur medicine needs fixing,,, Only red-wine was said to be bit beneficial for heart,,, but if u ask someone who knows the nitty-gritty he'll tell u it''s the anti-oxidants in red-wine that actually help, NOT THE Alcohol part of it,,, & that those anti-oxidents can be had if we eat red-grapes directly,,, rather than getting them using red-wine,,,, because alcohol in wine is still a carcinogen (causes cancers)...

Those protective elements are called "Polyphenols" & "resveratrol "...

Best post of the thread...

2 points to further elaborate perhaps as the interest in this is crazy!!!

1. Alcohol can be used for medicinal purposes (curative not preventative)... This is from the general rule that haram can be used for treatment... other examples are Pig Insulin when Human Insulin was rare...

2. Every business in alcohol is forbidden... So a Muslim cannot buy, sell, make, consume, gift etc alcohol ... and this is not an exhaustive list... This is one reason why people avoid alcohol based perfumes... As a precaution I use denatured alcohol products!!!

Oh btw Irfan... Shaving is not haram... :)

I m bracing myself for a fatwa already!!!

Yeah but WHICH alcohol is the question. I remember they added butanol, which if I remember from school is two ethanols strung together minus one -OH group plus one -H that replaces it.

@Vcheng..
I remember feeling tipsy after having benadryl.. does that count? :woot:
Ahh.. but the prize goes to the eggnog I used to have as a kid.. being asthmatic.. along with having chronic sinusitis.
my uncle bought some nice brandy of which two tea spoons were added to this..
those were the most sound sleeps ive ever had..
Still using alcohol in that concentration for medicine is in the haram enclosure..

Some preparations of Benadryl have alcohol in them but most don't these days.

Anybody here remember "Waterbury's Compound" ? (The original recipe available until the sixities and seventies)
