I wrote the above sentence while understanding that I was talking about Bangladesh (and not India). I suggested two conditions, either the athletes to cover their legs (sweat pants just do fine), and if not, then let only female spectators. I never suggested the athletes to cover themselves in 'Burqa' or what not.

While they can take part in athletics, they need to do it according to the guidelines set by the religion, which prohibits the Muslim women from exposing their arms and legs in front of unrelated men. However, if certain women do not like to follow the guidelines, it is up to them. I don't think I would run after them having a baton in my hand.

The prohibition is about the head covering i.e. scarf, which FIFA thinks can be dangerous during the game, and not on covering arms and legs.
