Cleric's fatwa cancels women's football match

1. why?? what about tennis??

2. phutball and kirket are not really games to be played by anyone.

3. this mullah is like another deobandi fool who said some years back that ladies cannot go beyond 100 kilometers with family male escort.

4. the idea of having a mullah council is illegal as per islam.
I do not know about Deobandi fool but as a Muslim, I know men and women have certain limits of how much body could be exposed. Now whether one wishes to follow those guidelines is upto them.

The prohibition is about the head covering i.e. scarf, which FIFA thinks can be dangerous during the game, and not on covering arms and legs.
Fifa could accommodate only that much, Iran being a Islamic country has such rule all over country, whereas India isn't so this example doesn't apply to this situation.

Then why issue a fatwa ?

Isn't female player choice what they wear?

Is this not discrimination against womens ?
The statement was very clear; he issued no fatwa but gave his opinion when asked, just like I am giving my opinion as per my understanding of Islam and not issuing any fatwa.

Question should be is all players are muslims ?

Why issue a fatwa against them?

As a secular country isn't their choice what their wear in football match?

They issued a fatwa and now west bengal govt covering it up.

please don't use islam to justify your wrong ideas of society.

i as a male don't want to see other mens' legs.

I think I have answered every question. Whether a fatwa was issued or not, or if it is being covered by the government is something I cant comment about. This you should take up with West Bengal government.

They are players, end of it. muslims/non muslims is irrelevant here. FIFA have guidelines for professional sportswomen to follow, everyone is doing that.

Well everyone wants their share of fame, be it for good or bad. Hence the fatwa.

Nope, it's about guidelines of the sports body which is required to be followed not their religious beliefs. What if someone ask a Maulvi to issue a fatwa against L guard and he declares it haram to wear it?

I am not justifying anything wrong. Do not pick on me unnecessarily. You are free to do whatever you like.

Now you are asking silly question and trying to take cheap shots at Islam. Football is far more popular in Gulf countries than in India. You think they play without these things? or they are barred by their clerics from wearing certain materials?

I am not taking cheap shots at Islam, I am calling this fatwa stupid and the maulvi who issued it an idiot. This is not a Islamic republic and he has no right to issue such diktats.

Every Tom Dick and Harry Moulvi cant issue a fatwa for this is exclusively a domain of a Mufti, a person qualified for issuing religious decree. Moulvi can express his opinion but sometimes due to lack of knowledge, and sometimes due to sheer prejudice, it is reported in the media as fatwa. Again, if certain folks have problem, they should take this matter to the court and get it settled.

Or someone who might be misreporting. I don't think the West Bengal Government is so weak that it will surrender in front of an unknown local Moulvi. Such events involve money and business and they don't get cancelled just like that.

Well misreporting and quoting out of context by media is nothing new when it comes to comments by religious leaders be it Hindu/Muslim or Christian leaders. You wouldn't be getting news about comments made by RSS or Hindu religious leaders if media don't misreport or quote them out of context and add their own spin on it.

Don't you know West Bengal has a "secular" govt. They bend over backwards to appease these 2 bit mullahs.

PS - If you don't know "secular" in this case means minority appeasing and bootlicking govt
