Dozens of Islamist militants have returned to the scene of Tuesday nights deadly clashes in the Tunisian capital.
Several men told the AFP news agency that they were ready for further violence after several buildings in a suburb of Tunis were torched.
One civilian was killed and two officers injured when hundreds of Salafist radicals attacked two police stations.
Once one of the most secular countries in the Muslim world, Tunisia has seen rising tensions over the role of religion.
A moderate Islamic group formed a coalition with two non-religious parties following last years Arab Spring protests.
But Islamist hardliners have demanded officials ban alcohol and implement Sharia law, which the government has refused to do.
