How about mining the area around such vulnerable posts in such a way the only way for these scumbags to attack will be through direct machine gun fire ?.

These posts are used as nakas or checkpoints to control and overwatch flow of traffic and keep a lookout for any unwanted people passing by. Mining them is not an option.

It is a mixture of all in different situations. The nakas in cantts are manned by military, the ones in major cities by police and in some areas by a mixture of police and FC.

In Islamabad it is also sometimes a mixture of FC and ICT or sometimes only ICT.

In the FATA areas and troublesome areas, it is FC and Military. The one being discussed in this thread is in Khyber Agency so it is FC.

So it varies with location and circumstances.

From my understanding of the precarious situation India has put itself into is, We are not willing to take any unilateral actions against pakistan (reasons stem from Extreme political incompetency, Utter and complete disregard for lives of our citizens, Fear of economic losses, Political repercussions).

So the only way to deal with asymmetric warfare is to pay back in asymmetric warfare. Apart from that, get the freakin economic might that we love to fantasize upon to hurt every them on every avenue...

As far as we being soft state, I dont believe that, lets not extrapolate the political impotency (soft) to the entire nation due to actions of a few.

This is the tragedy or rather the soul destroying dilemma faced by some of our security forces.
The Americans/NATO in Afghanistan have on several occasions obliterated whole wedding parties just because some one had fired a gun in the air....yet when hundred of these scum bags meet up inside Afghanistan and charge towards the Pakistani posts with everything blazing, all the American hi-tech gadgets become blind, worse the surviving terrorists can easily fall back and disappear back into Afghanistan. Pakistan has repeatedly asked the likes of NATO to secure it's side of the border but to no avail. The only option left seems for PA to carry out cross border raids to neutralise the menace.

Mate, when those few are at the helm of the affairs, their actions reflect on the whole state. And i agree with you on responding to asymmetric warfare with a similar style.
