Look, whatever system we have of govt. now is what the mass of pakistan wanted. Let them get what they want. If they want corruption, favoring of provinces, nepotism, bankruptcy, even suffering, so be it.
It will be only a matter of time before the govt. collapses and we have an emergency, pakistan is used to these things. Violence, trouble, hardships, it's what makes us strong and proud people. that's why i would live in pakistan rather than anywhere else because it's not normal and is different.
Let me put it the way I see it, people are stupid and ignorant, if they want to ruin themselves so be it :smokin:

Kh Asif under attack for casting doubts on Fahim

Abrar Saeed

ISLAMABAD - Key negotiator of PML(N) leader Kh Asif came under severe criticism for his irresponsible statement casting doubts on the credibility of PPP central leader Makhdoom Amin Fahim, in the senior party leaders meeting held under the chair of Party Quaid Mian Nawaz Sharif here at Frontier House to discuss the overall political situation in the country in the backdrop of the ongoing negotiations for the formation of the government with coalition partners.
The sources privy to the deliberations of the meeting which was attended by the senior party leaders including Mian Shahbaz Sharif, Raja Zafarul Haq, Makhdoom Javid Hashmi, Ch Nisar Ali Khan, Iqbal Zafar Jhagra, Sardar Mehtab Ahmad Khan, Kh Asif, Syed Zafar Ali Shah, Imdad Chandio, Ehsan Iqbal and others discussed all the issues threadbare and Mian Nawaz Sharif briefed the party leadership about the details of his meeting with Asif Ali Zardari in Murree.
He also informed the meeting about the power sharing formula with the coalition partners both in Centre and Punjab and informed that in the first phase the Federal Cabinet would take 12 to 15 ministers and the share to the coalition partners would be given to them on the basis of their strength in the Lower House.
Mian Nawaz Sharif directed the party leaders to avoid giving controversial and provocative statements against the leaders of the coalition partners when the issue of Kh Asif’s statement about the PPP leader Makhdoom Amin Fahim came up in the meeting which had triggered a new controversy and developed a bad taste if not some serious blow to the strength of the coalition between the two parties.
The sources informed that soon after the meeting Kh Asif and Makhdoom Javid Hashmi entered into a verbal brawl at the lunch table and both the leaders hurled abuses at each other and they were about to enter into a fistfight when the senior party leaders intervened and separated them.
Mian Nawaz Sharif took Makhdoom Javid Hashmi with him in his room while Ch Nisar Ali Khan took Kh Asif along with him to the other side.
Reportedly Makhdoom Javid Hashmi blamed that it was Kh Asif who abused him first which triggered trading of ****** abuses between the two.
Reportedly Kh Asif was annoyed over the statement given to media by Makhdoom Javid Hashmi wherein he had admonished Kh Asif for doubting the credibility of Makhdoom Amin Fahim.
Later when again Kh Asif came under severe criticism in the party meeting over the issue he lost his temper and entered into a clash with Makhdoom from Multan at the lunch table.
Meanwhile, Secretary Information of Pakistan Muslim League (N) Ahsan Iqbal said that the right of nominating a candidate for the slot of PM was given to the Pakistan Peoples Party and his Party had no objection to the nomination of anyone including Amin Fahim for the office of the Premier.
Talking to media persons after attending the consultative meeting of the Party held here at Frontier House on Wednesday under the chairmanship of PML(N) Quaid Mian Nawaz Sharif, he said that the Pakistan Peoples Party had the right to nominate anyone for the PM slot and added that maybe he is Makhdoom Amin Fahim.
Referring to the Murree Declaration, he however said that the future PM should have the abilities to implement the common agenda of both the Parties.
“If PPP nominates Makhdoom Amin Fahim for the PM slot, the PML (N) will have no objection,” he said.
To a question he said that the share in the government would be according to the Parties’ strength in the National Assembly.
President of PML(N) Shahbaz Sharif, Chairman Raja Zafar-ul-Haq, Secretary General Iqbal Zafar Jhagra, Ahsan Iqbal, Makhdoom Javed Hashmi, Haneef Abasi, Raja Muhammad Afzal and newly elected Members of National and Provincial Assemblies from Rawalpindi participated in the meeting.
Secretary Information of PML (N) warned that denying supremacy to Parliament would be detrimental to the whole system and a serious clash would emerge between the Presidency and Parliament for which the former would be responsible.
He said that without the validation of the acts of President Musharraf by Parliament the same stood illegal and void despite having the verdict of Supreme Court of Pakistan in his favour.
He further said that even in the past the acts of dictators having the apex court cover were brought before Parliament for validation.
He said that PML(N) Quaid Nawaz Sharif had taken into confidence all the Party leaders regarding the decisions taken in Murree and there was no confusion on the subject within the Party ranks.
He said that all political leaders welcomed the declaration of 9th March and described it as a new chapter in the history of democracy.
He said that it had happened for the first time in the history of Pakistan that two major Parties agreed on the vital issues such as constitutional amendments, democracy and restoration of judges.
He said that the meeting of the parliamentary committee would be held on March 17, at 10 am in the committee room of the National Assembly ahead of the inaugural session of the National Assembly.
He said that it had been discussed in the meeting that the formation of the government would be arranged through dialogue and names of the Federal Cabinet Members would be announced in the next couple of days.

Fahim sticks to his guns

Our Staff reporter

ISLAMABAD- While PPP Vice Chairman Makhdoom Amin Fahim is still sticking to his guns to be a potential candidate for premiership; party’s Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari has opted to remain non-committal on the issue.
This is what transpired after a long working dinner between the two PPP stalwarts Wednesday evening.
According to the sources privy to details of talks at the dinner hosted by Asif Ali Zardari, the Makhdoom from Hala took strong exception to remarks made by PML-N leader Khwaja Asif and PPP Central Information Secretary Sherry Rehman.
Zardari, sources said, however committed that he would take up Kh Asif’s remarks with the PML-N leadership and also ask Sherry Rehman to explain her position.
According to sources the two key leaders of the party parted promising to hold a series of meeting before the convening of the National Assembly session scheduled to be held on Monday.
APP adds: President Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians Makhdoom Amin Fahim Wednesday said if the party’s Co-Chairperson Asif Ali Zardari shows his desire to become Prime Minister he in the capacity of President PPPP will nominate him without any hesitation.
Talking to a private television channel, the PPPP President said that Asif Zardari has so far shared no such desire with him. “I am unable to understand that what was the need to create a controversy over the issue of PM candidate”, he said adding a non-issue was unnecessarily being made an issue and the entire nation was in the state of confusion.
To a question Fahim said the allegations leveled against him by PML-N leader Khawaja Asif have really hurt him.
“I held no secret meeting with President Musharraf “, he said adding after the assassination of Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto he stayed at Naudero for three days.
So there is no truth in such allegations, he said.
While asked to comment on the statement of PPPP spokesman Farahatulla Babar wherein he has termed the allegation of Khawaja Asif an inappropriate the PPPP President said, Farahatullah Babar is a polite person and his statement reflects his natural polity.
However, he has issued the statement and that is all right, he added.
Fahim asked that had a senior member of PPPP leveled such allegation against Sharif brothers what could have been their response. The veteran politician said that allegations made by Khawaja Asif are wrong and they appear to be based on some misunderstanding.
Amin Fahim said that there is dire need to bring the country out of prevailing crisis and he will not create any controversy at this particular stage.
To another question the PPPP leader said that he was offered the post of Prime Minister time and again in the past but he has been repeatedly refusing by following his party line.
“I am being pursued by the slot of Prime Ministership since 1988 but I have been managing to escape by adhering to principles”, he said.
Responding yet to another question Fahim said that he is not only the senior most member but also a constitutional President of the party that has won the recent election adding in this way he has strong claim on the slot Prime Minister.
The PPPP leader said that he does not know why he is trusted by the establishment adding he has no secret links with anyone.
While asked to comment on the Charter of Democracy he said it is the most important document after the country’s constitution which should be followed in letter and spirit.
When his attention was drawn to the future of National Security Council, the stalwart politician said that Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto had a vivid stand that this institution was a parallel body to the parliament thus it should be abolished.

Back off from Fahim, PPP MPAs tell PML-N

Wednesday, March 12, 2008
By Tahir Hasan Khan

Karachi- The PML-N leadership’s remarks against Makhdoom Amin Fahim were strongly condemned in the parliamentary group meeting of the PPP Sindh. PPP MPAs-elect, expressing their anger over the comments, advised the PML-N to avoid creating a wrong impression about the PPP leadership.

The first meeting of the PPP Parliamentary Group was held at the residence of Syed Qaim Ali Shah, the designated chief minister for Sindh, wherein a resolution was passed to condemn the remarks of PML-N leader Khawaja Asif against Fahim.

The MPAs termed the act an interference in the PPP’s affairs and requested the party co-chairman to convey these sentiments to the the PML-N.

Khawaja Asif had criticised Fahim in the media and alleged that he was a ‘man’ of Pervez Musharraf and that he had held meetings with the president.

Makhdoom Jameel-uz-Zaman, son of Fahim, who was elected from Hala as an MPA, told the media, as well as the party meeting, that the words of the PML-N leader were against the norms and tradition of the democratic system. He said that the PPP leaders would reply in the same manner if such tactics were not stopped.

He declared that the PPP was united and would remain united and any expectation of a division within the party was a misconception. He said that while there could be a difference of opinion in the PPP, this was an internal matter and no other party’s leader had the right to interfere.

Sources said that future MQM-PPP relations also came under discussion in the three-hour meeting and members were of the opinion that the party must maintain good relations with the party. However, the role of the governor and the power of the governor in the parliamentary system also came under discussion.

Sources said that members also expressed concern over the large number of recruitments in the Sindh government by the caretaker set-up. Describing it as illegal, the meeting adopted a resolution declaring that all appointments would stand cancelled.

Pir Mazhar told journalists that the government would constitute a commission to probe such appointments and added that the designated chief minister had already conveyed to the administration to avoid issuing appointment letters. He said that the party would also constitute a commission to investigate the illegal allotments of lands in the province.

LAHORE, March 8: A meeting of the Alliance for the Restoration of Democracy, hurriedly called by its president Makhdoom Amin Fahim for Sunday, was called off on Saturday reportedly after some PPP leaders intervened to ‘avert a political clash’ between the ARD chief and the PPP co-chairman.

“Thank God, we have averted an imminent political clash between Mr Fahim and Mr Zardari,” said an ARD leader associated with the PPP.

“Had the meeting been held, the participants would have supported Mr Fahim’s candidature for the office of prime minister, as a result of which the gulf between the ARD leader and Mr Zardari would have widened,” he remarked.

Fahim says he has no differences with Zardari

* PPP vice-chairman says there is no ‘deadlock’ on premiership issue
* Criticises party for not taking stand on Khawaja Asif’s remarks

By Sajjad Malik

ISLAMABAD: A meeting aimed at bridging the differences between Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari and Vice-Chairman Makhdoom Amin Fahim over the premiership nomination ended without any positive results on Wednesday. However, Fahim told a private TV channel that there were no differences between him and Zardari regarding the party’s choice of a candidate for the slot of prime minister. Talking to Geo News after meeting Zardari, Fahim said he and Zardari were good friends and were in the same political party. He said they had shared a meal and there was no ‘deadlock’ between them. Fahim said he was a solid candidate for premiership. He said the final decision on PPP’s candidate for prime minister would be made after consultation, adding that the next four days were crucial. According to sources, Zardari took Fahim into confidence over the charges being made against him and the “viewpoints” of various party members. The party co-chairman arranged the meeting, held at Zardari House. Sources privy to the meeting quoted Fahim as telling Zardari that while Benazir Bhutto had been alive, there had been no question about who would be premier. However, he said that it was his right to be nominated as prime minister after her death. The sources claimed that Fahim had left without eating. According to Online, Fahim told Zardari that the PML-N allegations levelled against him, coupled with an ongoing conspiracy by leading party members had hurt his self-esteem. He said that if Zardari would openly announce his candidacy for the premiership post, he would unconditionally withdraw his nomination. He also assured Zardari that he would continue to serve the PPP to the best of his ability. No stand: Dawn News, meanwhile, quoted Fahim as saying that he had expected the PPP to take a stand against Khawaja Asif’s remarks questioning his (Fahim’s) political integrity. He said that had somebody made such remarks about Nawaz or Shahbaz Sharif, the PML-N would have taken strong exception to it. Fahim told Dawn News that political parties should not rock the boat by adopting a ‘non-negotiable’ stance on the controversial issues. He also reiterated that he had met President Pervez Musharraf with the consent of slain PPP chairwoman Benazir Bhutto. Fahim said that he met Zardari daily and would continue to do so. He said PML-N leader Makhdoom Javed Hashmi had apologised for Khawaja Asif’s remarks, which was a great and noble gesture for which he (Fahim) was grateful. According to Dawn News, Fahim said he would meet Zardari again on Thursday.

Talks on PM issue make no headway

By Rauf Klasra & Asim Yasin

ISLAMABAD: PPPP Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari and the party President Makhdoom Amin Fahim failed on Wednesday to make any headway over the issue of the party’s nominee for the slot of the prime minister.

According to sources, Zardari frankly told Fahim that he had not yet decided to nominate him as the prime minister. Both the top leaders, who came face-to-face at a dinner meeting at Zardari House, would again meet on Thursday to hold, what according to many would be, "make-or-break" negotiations. Zardari's sister Farryal Talpur also attended the Wednesday’s dinner.

"I can confirm only one thing that there was no breakthrough in my meeting with Asif Zardari on the issue of the prime minister, and we are meeting again on Thursday to further discuss the same issue," Fahim told The News after his meeting with the PPPP co-chairman.

"Mr Zardari has not taken any decision on who would be the prime minister of Pakistan," Fahim said, adding, "I am still a candidate for the slot of the prime minister." Sources said the main reason for the failure of talks was the frank refusal of Amin Fahim to give up his candidacy.

Zardari, however, was reluctant to give Fahim his word on the nomination of the prime minister. Zardari told Fahim that he was in the process of consultations with the party leaders and others and was yet to take a final decision.

Fahim, however, said Zardari did not make any commitment with him as he had not made up his mind after completing consultations with the party leaders and the newly-elected MPs. "There are some problems but we hope to sort them out on Thursday," said Fahim.

During the meeting, Fahim is said to have expressed his serious anger at the soft approach of the PPP leadership towards the attack on his person by PML-N MNA Khawaja Asif with reference to his contacts with President Pervez Musharraf.

According to Fahim, all secret meetings between him and President Musharraf took place on the instructions of Benazir Bhutto and Asif Zardari but now an impression was being created as he was holding these meetings on his own.

Sources close to Fahim said that Zardari had assured Fahim that he would personally talk to Khawaja Asif. Sources said during the meeting, Fahim also complained against some party leaders who, according to him, were working against him.

Zardari assured Fahim that nobody in the party could give any statement against him and he would strictly ask the party leaders not to speak on any issue that might spark a controversy within the party.

Sources close to Makhdoom Amin Fahim claimed that Fahim had again emerged as a strong candidate for the slot of prime minister. Sources said the final decision in this regard would be announced on Sunday, a day before the inaugural session of the National Assembly.

Talking to Geo News after the meeting, Makhdoom Amin Fahim termed his meeting with Zardari as a routine affair. He said they met and had a dinner in a good atmosphere. "There is no difference between me and Asif Ali Zardari and we will meet again today (Thursday)."

When asked whether he was still having second thoughts about becoming the prime minister, he said he was still a strong candidate for the post of the prime minister. "The party is in consultative process and would announce its candidate in the next four days," he added.

When asked about reports on Zardari becoming a candidate for the PM, Fahim said, "If he has shown any desire, then being the president of PPP Parliamentarians, I would myself nominate him for the post without delaying a minute". When asked whether there was an offer for him to become the Senate chairman, he said no such offer was made to him during the meeting.

Fahim rejects offer to become president

By Amir Wasim

ISLAMABAD, March 13: The crisis in the Pakistan People’s Party deepened on Thursday when co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari and senior vice-chairman Makhdoom Amin Fahim failed to resolve their differences on the choice of the party’s candidate for the prime minister’s post.

Sources told Dawn that the body language of the two leaders in their second meeting in two days indicated that “all is not well” between them.

Mr Fahim’s insistence that he is the president of the People’s Party Parliamentarians, which is only a technical issue, means that top party leaders differ on some policy matters, particularly on the process of nominating a candidate for the post of prime minister.

“I am the president of the (PPP) Parliamentarians and this post is more important for me than that of the country’s president,” Mr Fahim said when a reporter asked him whether he had been offered the post of the country’s president or that of National Assembly speaker in return for his withdrawal from the race for premiership. “I will not become speaker. I am the PPP-Parliamentarians president,” he said, adding that he was still a “very strong candidate” for the office of prime minister.

Talking to reporters after his one-to-one meeting with Mr Zardari he said they would continue to meet.

When asked how would he react if Mr Zardari nominated any other person for the prime minister’s post, Mr Fahim said he would express his opinion ‘when the time came’.

When asked to comment on reports that the PPP co-chairman himself was aspiring for the post, Mr Fahim said he had already declared that if Mr Zardari expressed his desire to become the prime minister he would be the first person to support him.

He said there were no differences between him and Mr Zardari and they met like brothers. “We dined together yesterday and we ate together again.”

PPP spokesman Farhatullah Babar told Dawn there was nothing ‘extraordinary’ about the meeting because talks among senior party leaders were a routine matter. He said the meeting was held in a cordial atmosphere.

He said Mr Fahim might meet Mr Zardari again on Friday or Saturday.
