CJ receives Holbrooke, calls on Zardari

What reliability is needed for this simple piece of news? That was not a one-to-one meeting, and there were other officials present. That was not something secret or some behind-the-door kind of meeting that you need a 'reliable source'.

Whether CJ should have seen Mr. Holbrooke or not is debatable. However, my Dad has served in GoP for more than 37 years and for last 10 years of his service as a DG. Officers of this and higher level are required to do many things that we (who have not yet reached to that level) simply can not understand. Since we do not know (other than speculations) under what circumstances this meeting took place, I would rather not pass comments.

This is no simple news mate ... CJP shouldn't have met Holbrooke ... specially if CJP declines meeting with the President of Pakistan ... what is so special about Holbrook who came along with US envoy ...

CJP is out of fuel now :)

Despite economic down turn, USA is still the world's greatest economic and military power. Richard Holbrook is US representative. Historically no other empire except Roman Empire up to the emperor Marcus Aurelius and British Empire under Victoria has been powerful as US is today. Understand the visit was requested by Holbrook and a refusal would tantamount to insult. Anyone with ambitions would like to remain on the right side of the USA.

Ever since Ayub Khan came into power, it has been said that to reach the top in Pakistan, you need the blessing of three As. That is Allah, Army and America. This is true to this day.
CJ is now a political personality. IMO his aim is to become President if Pakistan. For this he needs support of a strong political party, which he has in PML-N and you will see that Nawaz Sharif as the next PM of Pakistan. Army has already made it clear that they would like to remain neutral. This leaves USA. I am sure think tanks in the US State department are also aware of CJ P intentions. This explains the visit.

On the other hand, CJP received Holbrook in his chambers, thus protocol was properly observed. Whatever I may think of Iftihkar Chaudhry, he is a much better qualified for Presidency than Mr. 10% so what is the harm if he eventually does get it.

Niaz saheb has already replied, and what is so special about him? Well you have already seen that in the last press conference where Zardari Government gave him the protocol of a viceroy. At any rate, personally I also support your view that the CJ should have avoided seeing him, because there is no apparent reason except for the speculative theory of he as a President which in my view is pre-mature assumption at this point.

I have always maintained the incumbent CJ is and always will be political, corrupt and biased.

I wonder how will the people of US would react to Pakistani foreign minister meeting with US Supreme court judge. Hilarious isn't it?

From when did you takeup the role of 'Allah'? or you have recieved the Angel Gabriel who told you about the present and the future of CJP? or you have access to the Intel reports which have mentioned about his corruption? And if none is there to support your 'fortune telling' than stop vomiting this nonsense.

USA has some precedent for this. US Chief justices have traveled to USSR, trying to broker peace. Warren Burger an earlier CJ of USA traveled to USSR. The politicians tried to get him to stop, and he had no official budget either. The lawyers were pretty pissed and so was many in the executive.

An old article referring to this....

The American Bar Association: Duped by the Soviets?
Quote

In short, it gives legitimacy to the Soviet system of judicial terror. delegation, including Sukharev and Zivs, a visit with Chief Justice Warren Burger at the Supreme Court. And subsequently, Burger's office proposed to the State Department a Soviet-American exchange program on penal reform I

President of Pakistan should have leadership qualities and should be popular across the country ... CJP has limited exposure to both qualities ... If this is what he want to do then he should do some thing prior to contesting for the elections ... fix the pay and benefit structure of our judiciary ... this is the biggest service he can do to this country
