হরতাল প্রতিরোধের সরকারের আহ্বান উপেক্ষা করে গতকাল জামায়াতের ডাকা সকাল-সন্ধ্যা হরতাল স্বতঃস্ফূর্তভাবে পালিত হয়েছে। হরতালের সময় সংসদ উপনেতা সাজেদা চৌধুরীর গাড়িতে অগ্নিসংযোগসহ বিক্ষিপ্ত সংঘর্ষ, গুলি, ভাংচুর, অগ্নিসংযোগ আর ধাওয়া-পাল্টা ধাওয়ার ঘটনা ঘটে। হরতালে কুমিল্লায় পুলিশের গুলিতে এক জামায়াতকর্মীসহ পৃথক দুর্ঘটনায় তিনজন নিহত হয়েছে। জামায়াতকর্মী নিহত হওয়ার প্রতিবাদে কুমিল্লায় আজ আধাবেলা হরতাল ডাকা হয়েছে। ব্যাপক সংখ্যক র্যাব-পুলিশের পাশাপাশি বিজিবি মোতায়েনের মাধ্যমে হরতাল প্রতিরোধের প্রস্তুতি ও আতঙ্ক উপেক্ষা করে রাজধানীসহ সারাদেশে পিকেটিং ও মিছিল করেছে জামায়াত-শিবির। ঘটেছে যানবাহন ভাংচুর, অগ্নিসংযোগ ও ককটেল বিস্ফোরণের ঘটনা। সকালে রাজধানীর যাত্রাবাড়ী, তেজগাঁও, ফার্মগেট, মহাখালীসহ বিভিন্ন স্থানের হরতালের সমর্থনে মিছিলের সময় জামায়াত-শিবির নেতাকর্মীদের সংঘর্ষ ও ধাওয়া-পাল্টা ধাওয়ার ঘটনা ঘটে। এ সময় পুলিশ পিকেটারদের লক্ষ্য করে গুলি, রাবার বুলেট ও সাউন্ড গ্রেনেড নিক্ষেপ করে। এতে বেশ কয়েকজন গুলিবিদ্ধসহ অন্তত ৩০ জন আহত হয়। আটক করা হয় অর্ধশতাধিক নেতাকর্মী। অপরদিকে, জামায়াত-শিবিরকর্মীরাও ইটপাটকেল নিক্ষেপ ও ককটেল বিস্ফোরণ ঘটায়। তেজগাঁও রিংরোড এলাকায় শিবিরের মিছিলে পুলিশ গুলি চালায়। ঘটনাস্থল থেকে আটক তিন শিবিরকর্মীকে তেজগাঁও থানায় নেয়ার পর দুজনের পায়ে গুলি চালানো হয়। বাড্ডায় শিবিরকর্মীরা মিছিল ও পিকেটিং করার সময় একটি মিনিবাস দ্রুত পালাতে গিয়ে নিয়ন্ত্রণ হারিয়ে উল্টে যায়। এতে ঘটনাস্থলেই নিহত হয় অজ্ঞাত এক যাত্রী। আহত হয় আরও ৫-৬ জন। বিকালে কাঁটাবন এলাকায় সংসদ উপনেতা সাজেদা চৌধুরীর গাড়িতে আগুন দেয়া হয়। তবে ওই সময় তিনি গাড়িতে ছিলেন না। ঢাকার বাইরে কুমিল্লার চৌদ্দগ্রামে পুলিশের সঙ্গে জামায়াত-শিবিরের ব্যাপক সংঘর্ষ হয়। এ সময় পুলিশের গুলিতে ইবরাহীম (২&#2538 নামের এক জামায়াতকর্মী নিহত হয়। গুলিবিদ্ধসহ আহত হয় আরও ১০ জন। এছাড়া রাজশাহীর বিনোদপুর, রংপুর, লক্ষ্মীপুরসহ বিভিন্ন স্থানে পুলিশের সঙ্গে জামায়াত-শিবিরের সংঘর্ষের ঘটনা ঘটেছে। অপরদিকে, কক্সবাজারের রামুতে পিকেটারদের অ্যাম্বুলেন্স ভাংচুরের কবলে পড়ে হৃদরোগে আক্রান্ত হয়ে মারা যায় এক রোগী। তবে সংশ্লিষ্টদের দাবি ভাংচুরের আগেই তার মৃত্যু হয়েছিল।
এদিকে জামায়াতের ডাকা হরতাল প্রত্যাখ্যান করে সংশ্লিষ্ট মালিক সমিতির পক্ষ থেকে পরিবহন ও দোকানপাট খোলা রাখা ঘোষণা দেয়া হলেও তাতে সাড়া মেলেনি। রাজধানী থেকে দূর-পাল্লার কোনো যানবাহন ছেড়ে যায়নি। অধিকাংশ দোকানপাট ও ব্যবসা প্রতিষ্ঠান ছিল বন্ধ। সরকারি নির্দেশনা অনুযায়ী অধিকাংশ শিক্ষাপ্রতিষ্ঠান খোলা থাকলেও তাতে শিক্ষার্থীদের উপস্থিতি ছিল খুব কম। ক্লাস পরীক্ষা হয়নি। স্কুলে যেতে চরম ভোগান্তির শিকার হওয়ায় ক্ষোভ প্রকাশ করেন অনেক অভিভাবক ও শিক্ষার্থী। সকাল থেকেই রাজধানীতে কিছু লোকাল বাস ও টেম্পো চলাচল করলেও যাত্রী ছিল কম। তবে বেলা বাড়ার সঙ্গে সঙ্গে যানবাহন চলাচলের সংখ্যা কিছুটা বেড়ে যায়। সরকারি ও বেসরকারি অফিস আদালত খোলা থাকলেও তাতে লোকজনের তেমন উপস্থিতি ছিল না। শাহবাগের আন্দোলনকারীরা হরতালকারীদের প্রতিরোধের ঘোষণা দিলেও পিকেটারদের সঙ্গে তাদের কোনো সংঘর্ষের ঘটনা ঘটেনি।

Real target is Islamic aspiration in Bangladesh - “War crime” is excuse for India and Awami League

It is Awami league with active instigation from India re initiated DIVISIVE issue of “war crime” and tribunal. It is divisive simply because even in Awami League many are accused of war crime and so are many across political parties and social spectrum. During 1971 these accused their side BUT in the context of independent Bangladesh witch hunt specially politically motivated witch hunt is destructive proposition because 43 years old actions of these people has NO RELEVANCE NOW *.


Although Awami League started divisive issue with “war crime”, issue of “war crime” has been moved to attack on “Jamaat” as political party, then to attack on Islamic institutions and then to attack on Islam as religion in Bangladesh and Islamic practices. That is exactly how India and many within Awami league and its partner intended to use the “war crime” issue when they started. Use “war crime” as an excuse but REAL target is Islam and majority Muslim population in Bangladesh. And because of REAL indian and Awami League motive and target that was deceived from narrative, in reality neither victim of war crime got justice nor accused got due process.

In fact Awami League minister clarified about their real target in BBC sponsored program already announced that Awami League does not think Islam should be state religion, which is aspiration of 90% Muslim population in Bangladesh. According to Awami League minister Awami League will remove any trace left of Islam from constitution in due time.


Indians according to their ultimate target are spreading anti-Islamic sentiment, attacking anyone who opposes their attacking view on Islamic faith and on majority population.

That is exactly what India had been pushing to accomplish in Bangladesh using indian brand of “secularism” as cover, subjugate Muslim majority population under minority and indian control. Since Awami League came into power with indian money and support we have seen how indian interest and dictate implemented by Awami League regime over Bangladesh own interest and population.

“war crime” is just an excuse main target of this noise from Shahbagh, Awami League and their like mined media and more importantly India are against Islam and Muslim Majority population. Anti-strike activists dominate Dhaka streets

Anti-strike activists marched through the streets of the capital as Jamaat-e-Islami supporters were conspicuous by their absence during the countrywide shutdown called by the Islamist party.

Leaders and activists of the ruling Awami League and its affiliate organisations brought out processions in different parts of the city rejecting the strike call.

Jamaat called the shutdown to protest against the deaths of its ‘activists’ in Cox’s Bazar on Friday amid a widespread call to ban the party, which opposed the creation of Bangladesh in 1971.

Calls were also made by the demonstrators from the ‘Ganajagaran Mancha’ at Shahbagh to defy the general strike and maintain normalcy.

In contrast to some of the recent shutdowns, traffic in the capital was normal since the morning while offices, banks and educational institutions remained open.

Pro-government activists brought out a procession in the capital’s Karwan Bazar area at around 8:30am. Chhatra League activists also took out a procession in the Moghbazar area half an hour later.

The Jamaat-Shibir activists were not to be seen in the Motijheel and Paltan areas on Monday. Anti-shutdown processions were held in the area at around 9am and two hours later.

A large contingent of police forces has been deployed in the city’s busy commercial area. bdnews24.com Correspondent Sheikh Abdullah said all public and private institutions in the area remained open.

“Traffic in the area is normal and the strike has no visible effect on the usual activities,” he said.

Meanwhile, water transportation has remained normal since the morning. bdnews24.com Correspondent Kamal Talukder said the number of passengers was like any other working day.

He said the situation in and around Sadarghat was normal.

The Sadarghat Sramik League, an associate of the Awami League, brought out an anti-shutdown procession at around 10:30am. Talukder said the pro-government activists were seen across Dhaka.

Sramik Union took out a similar procession at around 11am at Paltan. Around the same time, an anti-strike procession was seen on the Mohakhali-Gulshan Street.

First of all i am really surprised to see that a street protest in BD will decide the fate of some criminals...I am not sure how come sane posters like Hammer First and couple of other guys are in support of this move.

Here is my observation.

1- Rule of law of the court should be held as final deciding factor in your constitution. Do not change the rule of law just execute your political opponents.

2- The people who are protesting in Shabang should realize that if people donot like JI then exercise your ballot and donot vote for JI and the parties who are allied with JI...With this process, JI will die its natural death..You donot need to forcefull invoke a certain sentiments just because it does not suit you..

3- This will be politically suicidal move if AL bans JI...Because of this move, the perceptional loss in the mind of the people for AL will be more than the loss for JI with the ban imposed on it..See...it might happen that after the ban JI will change the name and just raise another political outfit with the same ideology...So with the ban ....name of JI will be banned but the ideology will get a lot of media attention which will increase its popularity.A classic example can be taken about Lal Masjid episode in Pakistan...

4- With the ban...JI will potray itself as a political martyr rather than the criminal convict itself...

5- Of course it will be altogether a different issue, if there is an internal understanding between JI and AL where in reality nothing as such ban will happen, but due to this media publicity against JI, AL in turn doing a favor to JI at this point of time, which AL can ask for a return favor from JI in the coming election...In politics....nothing seems to be impossible.

Bro u dont know many things about BD politics. Its not new ppl have come on street in demand of War criminals death.
Same types of protest was started by jahanara imam by the year 1992.
That time bnp gov. not tollerated this and accused some freedom fighters traitors.
But same type has occured this time too when ppl voted AL with an wish to do judgement.
But they also done nothing for us. And they came back few steps with a fear of jamat-shibir violence.
So what ppl can do who are in favor of independence.
Some youth in Bangle grown with false and tempered history but some not.
This Shahbagh protest is the rise of that kind of youth who loves its independence.

It is impossible to know the percentage of jamaati votes. They do not contest from everywhere, only 30 seats. Their votes go to bno from where they do not conrest.

Even Ananda Bazar Patrika of Kolkata conceded a couple of days ago that JI had at least 8% supporters in any of the sizable community at BD. And according to Daily Sangram, JI had over 1 crore votable masses that would be at least over 10% and over 37 lacs voted during the last election..
