Great pictures @Nihonjin1051 ... That 25 joke cracked me up.. I want to visit Japan one day. Its on my to visit country list in my lifetime...

They celebrate it for very different reasons but they celebrate it with great fervor and its very impressive how they have integrated this custom into their life... Always amazed me.

After this there is the new year temple visit right? Where people visit temples to pray for a blessed year?

Anyway great pics.. A world apart.

Japan is a land of many cultures, many layers, my friend. Dig deep enough and you will see that the superficial homogeneity reveals a myriad of diversity in the country.

Christmas is a very big time of the year for secular society in Japan, in general, as it has a spiritual significance. I know that in its core Christmas is a celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ, and is a special time for Christians and even Muslims (afterall Jesus (Issa) was a great prophet in Islam; and his virgin birth from Mary (Maryam) was greatly covered in the Holy Quran, as it is in the Holy Bible). Japanese attribute Christmas Season with a Season of rebirth, family, filial piety, and giving. It is an example of a Western (or Eastern) practice that was adopted and incorporated into japanese culture and society. I suppose an example of our way of making something "foreign" into something Japanese. :)

For the Christians in Japan, this time is a special time !

Well, yes! For Japanese who practice Shinto / Buddhism, they visit their temples during this year to pray for the souls of their family who have joined the creator. Small offerings of indulgences such as monetary donations for the poor, or volunteering at the poor houses are common practices. For Christians in Japan --- this is time is special because it is the celebration of the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ. As a Christian Japanese, myself, this is a special time for me. For religious reasons, for filial reasons, too. :)

Yes this diversity has always been Japans strong suit and is very impressive adds to the attraction of Japan.

Yes Christian holds great significance in the Japanese society and quite frankly the way it was celebrated with such fervor, when I was younger, I was sure Japan was a christian nation but later on found out that it has adopted and integrated Christmas masterfully in its society which was very impressive.

Yes Hazrat ESSA (A.S) holds great importance in The Holy Quran and in a Muslims life. The miracle of his birth has been well discussed in the Qur'an as well as many aspects concerning him.

And there is the impressive part. The way it has been adopted and something pure christian has been morphed into Japanese and integrated into the Japanese society. You don't see that much elsewhere..

For the Christians in Japan, this time is a special time !

I see..I did not know about the donations and the charitable work. Thanks for the info.

Well then merry christmas man ( in advance).

Hope you enjoy it and may you have a blessed next year and a wonderful life.

One question .. Do the Japanese light the christmas tree and do the entire gifts under the tree custom ?

and requiring heavy discounts to get married after their 25th birthdays.
So half a camel for those past their best before date?

What's wrong, brother? Don't you prefer to marry a younger wife?
Not that young :

I mean those cakes look sweet but awfully small! I'd need two to tango?

I'll go with the half camel option. Now to find a halal butcher in Japan ... do you have an address or two for me?

:jester:

This said, I'm glad your flight home is coming.
My little sis is visiting and I'm drinking sake she brought me as I write.
She'll be back in Chiba by Jan. 10th.

Have the best possible holidays with your friends and family my friend, Tay
