8-Pass Charlie

8-Pass Charlie was the codename of an unknown Pakistan Air Force B-57 bomber ace who raided the Adampur airbase of the Indian Air Force in Indian Punjab a number of times during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1965 notably starting the series of raids on the base by a solo raid.

He was named "8-Pass Charlie" by his impressed Indian adversaries at the Adampur base as he used to make eight passes, one for each bomb, on selected targets with improving efficiency instead of safely dropping all his bomb load and exiting. He is also known to have expertise in disguising his attack run by confusing anti-aircraft gunners by cutting throttles before entering a dive.
During the war, the bomber wing of the PAF was attacking the concentration of airfields in north India. In order to avoid enemy fighter-bombers, the B-57s operated from several different airbases, taking off and returning to different bases to hop and avoid being attacked. The B-57 bombers would arrive over their targets in a stream at intervals of about 15 minutes, which led to achieving a major disruption of the overall IAF effort.

The name was assigned to this unknown pilot by his impressed Indian adversaries at the Adampur base, and appears to be derived from his daring routine of making eight passes in bombing runs during every air raid over the alerted airbase to bomb selected targets with each 500 lb bomb in the moonlight, "and tried to carry out an effective attack each time", instead of dropping his entire bomb-load of 4,000 lbs during the first pass which would have allowed a safer exit for the aggressor aircraft over initial defences.
One of the known kills of 8-Pass Charlie is one of the Indian Air Force MiG 21s on Operational Readiness Platform (ORP) which were about to take off when he the executed the first raid on the Adampur base at 2200 hours with his lone B-57 on 6 September, 1965.
In addition to his routine of making eight passes over Adampur, the unknown pilot also seemed to have had a second routine of conducting his raids thirty minutes after moonrise.

Paddy Earle, an IAF fighter pilot, paid tribute to the unknown ace by saying:

I have the utmost respect for the Pakistani Canberra bloke who loved to ruin the equanimity of our dreary lives! 8-Pass Charlie was an ace, but he had this nasty habit of turning up about 30 min. after moonrise, just as we were downing our first drink! Seriously, he was a cool dude and a professional of the highest order. To disguise the direction of his run, he used to cut throttles before entering a dive and by the time the ack-ack opened up he was beneath the umbrella of fire. After dropping his load he'd apply full throttle and climb out above the umbrella.

What will the chinese do with their trillons of dollers.:D

Let the money rot, that idle money will wreck havoc to their economy, that's why they are so desperate about investment.

Instead, we should help Japan with their trillions of dollers :)

I don't know how this is related to topic ..... if you are posting quotes of other nationalities , here is few for you too

Read it :

What are you going to do China? Suck on it. Your worse days are still to come for the crimes you commited and aggresion you show to your neighbors. One would say they would be accomodating to avoid another humiliation but they seem to repeat history.

They should be kissing the hands of US a hunderd times for they have saved their skin in WW2. But unfortunately as ungrateful they are, they even bark at US and don't show a glance of thankfulness to their savours.

US has created a monster the region has to deal with now.

China is an overdue ala Soviet union waiting to bust apart. Most people are poor and don't want chini communist oppression including some Chinese peoples. Beijing will eventually loose grip.

Thanks for confirming my point. :enjoy:

The Turkish members here hate us, due to the Uyghur issue.

But even they can still see the obvious, and they pointed it out on page 1 of this thread.

Probably less stupid than you actually are ....

Operation Grand Slam

A declassified US State Department letter that confirms the existence of hundreds of "infiltrators" in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. Dated during the events running up to the 1965 war.

Your points does not prove anything ....... Pakistanis have killed civilians in the past and are still trying by shelling them .

Also the invasion of India was undeclared .. For more I suggest you read crossed swords by Shuja Nawaz explains not only the war but mistakes made by Pakistan in detail ..(an eye opener even for Pakistanis)... The author explains in details the stupidity of Pakistani officials n generals alike

The obvious here is AP is an integral part of India, and China can't do anything about it.

Same goes for Kashmir. @DESERT FIGHTER

An integral part where you have to deploy more soldiers than voters.. Where Pakistani flags are hoisted instead of indian .. Where Pakistani victory is celebrated rather than indian .. Where protests for freedom are a daily occurrence .. Where your army commits attrocities and is provided protection by draconian laws.. Where ppl call themselves Pakistani or Kashmir rather than indian.. Where pakistani national anthem is sung rather than indian.. And so on even after 67-68 years..

Okay.

You know we defeated India in 1962, and took all of AP right? And India couldn't do anything to stop it. You were completely defeated on both fronts.

The only reason you have it today, was because Zhou Enlai wanted you to reconsider his previous (excessively generous) offer to swap recognition of AP for Aksai Chin, the offer made in 1960.

But India of course did not, and now AP is a sword hanging over your heads. We took it when we were weaker than you in 1962 (and in the middle of a famine too), next time you try the Forward policy, make sure you don't lose the entirety of NE India after the Chicken's neck gets cut. :P

i. China never took all of the NEFA. They would have in all probability, but still they did not. In any case it was not called the Arunachal Pradesh then.

ii. Recognition for Chinese admin over Aksai for Indian admin over Arunachal is a good enough proposition. When I become PM I will accept it. :D

iii. You were not weaker in terms of military matters. Your armed forces were battle hardened and toned to the max. They had experience in several wars over the last two decades. Plus you had enormous supplies stockpiled. Nehru was such a genius that he planned to do away with the Army entirely in contrast. The IA was underarmed, underprepared and undersupplied. This is all there in Neville Maxville's book as well. The poor sods had to make do with canvas shoes even - such was the sorry state of the forces!

iv. The Forward Policy was Nehru The Great's brainchild. The genius thought China would behave like the sick China of the previous century. Instead it did what any self respecting nation should. A similar stance has since been adopted by India herself since the death of Nehru.

.
These are all bed time stories dear, there is a seperate thread running that clearly shows how Kashmiris don't want to be a part of Pakistan. Some of them fly Pakistani flag because they get money from Pakistan for doing so.

No worrys ... Send them and arm them so they can atleast crush the extremist insects here..

Well India rejected the excessively generous offer of a mutual swap, and chose the military Forward Policy instead, against a China in the middle of the worst famine in our history.

BBC News - India climbdown may help China border dispute

By Subir Bhaumik
Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh
17 April 2012

India has been reluctant to part with any portion of the disputed territory since the 1950s.

It rejected a swap offer made by China's former Prime Minister Zhou Enlai in 1960, asking India to recognise China's control of Aksai Chin in the west as a quid pro quo for China's recognition of the McMahon line.

After rejecting that offer, India initiated a "forward policy" to control the disputed territories in the Himalayas.

We are here anytime if India wants to reconsider, but like Nehru they refuse to compromise in any way.
