Chinese scientists achieve quantum computational advantage

There is this subbranch of Quantum call QKD communication.

If we understand QKD, it is really pathetically low data throughput until it is absolutely impractical for almost all communications. That is why it is used for "key distribution", which is at most a few hundred bytes and marketed as 100% secure.

If Quantum communication is so great, why not send one movie using Qubits?

When I do Quantum, I realized it is BIG SCAM.

I feel today, physicist run out of ideas to write papers, since the last major breakthrough -- the STANDARD MODEL is already 70 years old.

The MOST important promise of Quantum computer is cracking RSA by SHOR. This is what those proponent have promise. So where is the promise now....

And what else? Almost nothing else is feasible.

Not even delivering what it is suppose to do but everyday proponents keep boasting how powerful Quantum Computers are.

Yes, there is way too much hype in media reporting of quantum computing research.

I think the common argument for quantum computing research is because in theory, it has potential wide application hence great benefit. Much like nuclear fusion.

Vast majority of scientific research fail to materialize into useful application, but that doesn't mean the search should be abondon. Otherwise there will never be progress.

Quantum computing is fundamental research and it is in its beginning and it is hard. Maybe you should not be expecting too much because of the media hype?

That is the nature of scientific research.

Our ancestor has advise us, the "journey of a thousand miles, begin with a single step". If we keep progressing, one day we could get there.

Unlike progress in quantum communications and metrology, it is possible that quantum computer could never be realized. But even so, it is not all in vain.

Because like in chinese classic novel "jorney to the west", it is not necessary the destination you reach that count, it is more about the trail and tribulation in the journey. Because everyone would die someday, it is the life journey, and what we learn and did along the way, that is meaningful. Similaraly, what research has found even if it is unsuccessful, would be meaningful.

Well, I tend to lean on the opposite direction. China should build at least some form of scientific facilities for fundamental high energy particles research. I don't pretend that I understand the scientific arguments in those debate, I can only trust the competency of the scientistic community that this is at minimium something worth investigating. But I believe Yang is bias because he is into material research, he has consistenly object to particle research since 30 years ago and his argument is rather limited because of his own research choice.

I believe the Chinese people for most of past few millenium has enjoy a relatively higher living standard then most others because of one thing: the economic of scale. Because they are able to unite and organize into a bigger state than most. And that is a major advantage that China would have probably for a long time.

CEPC cost is in the tens of billion, it is a big sum and there is no guarantee that new science is going to be found. But for China, it is quite affordable in the big scheme of things, and organizing and executing big project/facilitiies is Chinese govt's forte.

China should do it because the potential benefits would be great. Like what JFK said, not because it is easy, but because it is hard, only big country could tackle it and that is an advantage that should be leverage.

This is a scam by string theorist. You can learn from mistake -- abet at a very expensive price.

I suggest putting monies into somewhere else where it is more productive.

Dont always preach learning from scam.
