china has SAR sats working in orbit for nearly a decade. yeah, they need to catch up to india who just got 1 up recently..haha..and it's made by israel..lol wet dream...

Good point, since there is no confirmed data on Chinese semote sensing SAR satellite. There is something worth reading. The estimated data it provides is for the older Yaogan 2. Now China already launched Yaogan 9A, 9B, 9C in March, 2010

Electro-Optical Digital Imaging Variant

Chinese media briefly reported on 25 May 2007 that the ChangZheng family of space launch vehicles had successfully conducted its 99th flight, sending two satellites into space. The CZ-2D launch vehicle, which was launched from Jiuquan at 15:12 local time (07:12 GMT) on 25 May 2007, carried the YaoGan WeiXing 2 (Remote Sensing Satellite 2, RSS2) designed by China Academy of Space Technology (CAST, also known as 5th Space Academy), as well as a pico-satellite designed by Zhejiang University for scientific experiment.

It is understood that the satellite was actually a new-generation digital imaging reconnaissance satellite known as JianBing 6 in its military designation. It replaced the older FSW-4 film return type reconnaissance satellites to provide imagery intelligence capability for both military and civil users, with an estimated ground resolution of 0.6~1 metre. A second satellite Yaogan Weixing 4 (RSS-4/Jianbing 8) was launched from Jiuquan on 1 December 2008.

I know those, what I meant was the detailed technical aspect of those satellites are unknown beside speculations. CASC doesn't have a hobby of bragging. If it is instead military satellite, then its technical data is a matter of national security.

Late.. True, but we have Really Capable System and The proof is the confidance that others have shown in our launch systems. Belgium,Germany,Israel to name a few...

TES and CARTOSAT 1 and 2 are 200% Indian Sats. These have 1 and .8 mt. Res. Capability only second to USA.

The Israeli Sat is NOT Being Referred Here. Its Different from CATOSAT.

I believe that the resolution of spy satellites, include India, is classified. If an Indian reveal the true ability of the true resolution capability of the Indian spy satellite, this person should be court marshalled.

As for the US satellite has the resolution of only .6 meter, this is not true. In the 1980s, the US spy satellite can zoom in on an ice hocky puck in Gorki park and follow it through the ring. That is over 20 years ago. Back then, the US satellite resolution was already very fine. I believe in the modern times, its not just the resolutions that defines the power of a spy satellite. I'm not that knowledgeable in this area but I'm certain that it has more capabilities than being able to zoom in on something.

For China's Yaogan Weixin 2 which was sent to orbit in 2007, it was estimated to have ground resolution of 0.6~1 meter. Now this year China already sent more advanced Yaogan Weixin 9 into orbit.

There is someone that I think you should read about, and see if China's lead in the space program is justifiable. His colleague in US said that he alone could give China 20 years leap in the space technology.

You know the differece. China likes to keep things quite. When is the last time you hear China officially something like "we are better than ***" or "We are second only to ***" in space related area.


For China's Yaogan Weixin 2 which was sent to orbit in 2007, it was estimated to have ground resolution of 0.6~1 meter. Now this year China already sent more advanced Yaogan Weixin 9 into orbit.

There is someone that I think you should read about, and see if China's lead in the space program is justifiable. His colleague in US said that he alone could give China 20 years leap in the space technology.

I read a book on Qian Xuesen by Iris Chang. He is definitely the difference maker for China. Imagine the US provided China one of the top 10 US aerospace scientist in the 1950s. That is what had happened.

To be fair, the space related technology of korea is nowhere near that of india.
many seems to forget that Japan is also a major space player with the third largest satellite fleet. Japanese can built solid fuel rocket with a diametre of 5m which indicates they have a very mature missile technology. another note, Japan is also one of the largest civil nucleat suppliers which means they can easily field advanced nuclear weapon. instead of worrying about korea or india, i think china should be highly concerned about japan since its domestic rightwing facist party has been growing rapidly.

"Thread of Silkworm" is a really good book. I think he was not only one of the top 10, but most valuable of the 10.

Russia ,US and EU have been the seniors in Space Commercial Launches yet Its India which has the Cheapest Launcher in The World.

only in the lower end market where your rockets only capable of. most of sats that they launched for foreigners are tiny microsats around 50~100 kg made by students..lol..the big market is in 5~ kg class, which are dominate by the RUS, US and EU. china would have dominate the 5~ kg category if there's no embargo. they have the cheapest and very reliable long-march launch vihicles in that class..

Talk about what we know. If China can see better that .8 meter Resolution its ahead of India, else you Have to admit India is on Top. Of China.. In Spy Sats atleast.

china has a constellation of SARsats and OPTsats in obirt..they will have atleast 8 SARsats by 2013 including civilian ones..yeah you are far ahead..lol
and the estimate resolution of their optical sat you're quoting is for 1st generation made 4 years ago..lo

4 or 5 ? India is one of them.

The capability of PSLV is 2 Tonnes.
So wheather its upn the client what payload they want to send.

Mind it that even if u have to send a 'toy' in space millions have to be invested and india has the edge to the same in just half the price as compared to the rest of the world.

Except for the heavy communication satellites, sor Remote Sensing 2 2on Class sats.. Sufficient for most of the needs of countries lookiing for cheap launchers.

The important factor is reliability. With over 15 successful launches in a row PSLV is a King in its class of launchers.

Can someone give a reliable source that china has .6 mt capability?
