Chinese-Russian Venture to Make Small Aircraft

Chinese-Russian venture will invest 8 billion yuan ($1.27 billion) to build a small-plane manufacturing base in China’s Inner Mongolia region, Xinhua reported today, citing a company agreement.

China Oriental Sciences Group will hold 52 percent of the venture with China-Russia International Investment Co. and Russian aircraft designer KB-SAT owning the balance, Xinhua said.

Construction will begin this year the plant will be able to make 400 four-to-12-seat general aviation planes by 2016, Xinhua said, citing China Oriental President Zhuang Zhong.

. . . . .
hmm,, ny tech details?
will that be piston engine? or turbo prop?

This is only some 12 seats small airplane.

China will only rely on its domestic turbofan for the large jetliner, otherwise without any choice for the moment, they will purchase the superior turbofan from GE.

What China (and/or Russia) need to do is create a small sport aircraft of two or four seats that can be sold for less than $50,000 U.S.

General aviation (light aircraft) is dying because the prices are insane. A new Cessna or Beechcraft sells for $250,000 or more these days. Only the rich can afford them.

If a safe and efficient light aircraft can be produced and certified for the price of a new car, it'll sell like crazy. I'd buy one.

oh men, Russian aircrafts are pieces of junk. dont understand why do joint-venture with them.

Of course, that is why Pakistan operates them and why they have a proven combat record when in the hands of professional air force's.

Apparently he still does not know that the F-6,F-7 are all aircraft based on Russian designs.
Or the fact that the majority of Pakistan's helicopter fleet is now based on Mi-17's.
Think before you write has not occurred to people here many a times.

russian aircraft has bad reputation for safety issue. russian aircraft falls all the time even though russian airplane makes a small portion in the airplane market. not sure how many customers will buy these products, good luck you guys :D

what the chinese should do is to invest that much money and every cent into R&D. self-development is better approach than relying on russian. many chinese good scientists go abroad and make weapons, aircraft, airplane for US. why dont use that much money to keep every of them in china and do research for china itself? by doing that, i believe russian aircraft companies all will go bankrupt

Russian tech is one of the best in the world; they are the reason why US and European aviators had to stay on their toes. You don’t get to send 1st man out into space without top guys working for you. PAK FA would prove to be one of the best and a real challenger to the might of F-22 raptor.

I think you are very much confused. A random fact, there has been over 300 F-16 crashes worldwide, but still its safety record is solid considering accidents per 100,000 hours flown. Furthermore, many crashes that occur, and I’m talking about all aircraft, can be contributed to many factors besides mechanical failures such as pilot error (fuel starvation, passing out, misjudging altitude, unsafe approaches, ect) bird strikes, improper maintenance, poor weather, ect.

Now if we take a look at modern Russian aircraft such as the SU-30 we will notice that of all the years that the aircraft has been in service and of all the aircraft produced there has been only a handful of crashes some having nothing to do with mechanical problems.
