What's new

Chinese Range Rover

at last something I can afford... :)
chinese brands might copy now but they will one day become big. Look at the mobile manufacturers like ZTE or hwuei... alibaba itself is copy of many original idea but its massive..

chinese company have a advantage of big chinese market, even if they come late, they can become bigger than their opponents.

I don't understand who buy these cars. Does anyone really want to buy a knock off named Land Wind? Or do they fool people to believe that it's original?

@Genesis : It is sad to see that you are such a sane person but trying to justify this "Copy" act. Forget about India, UK or any other country for a moment and think in this way that you have invested a lot of money in R&D of a product and you want money out of it but you see that some one in other country has just copied your effort. How would you feel.. Cheated?

A copyright claim doesn't work in China, I never saw that any single case is won by any big company. The logic should be not to promote this "Copy" culture but denounce them.

I'm not justifying it, you want to live in a world of sunshine and rainbows, that's up to you.

China cannot sell things at a premium, that's just a fact. Neither can India, it's not about right or wrong, it's about priorities. We refuse to let any nation mess with us again, no matter the cost.

True we are not as well liked as India as a country, but we are still invited to all the cool parties, cause we got the Lambo.

We can do what we want to any of our neighbours, while India cannot, despite what some may say to the contrary, for the raw power is simply not there, opening dams, building HSR, airport, railways at the border, those require money and expertise, none of which exist in India.

Given the choice, it's better to be feared than liked. Which is why Saddam and Osama are not alive today.

Should we protect copy right? Yes, but not at the cost of progress.

Ordinary Chinese are not as rich as Americans.

You are Indian, but in America, you know how many Indians want a car like this at that price? It's a lot. I'm not going to go into more detail, but think about the condition of India and china, and then you would understand, why this exist.

I am sure there are affordable cars not named Land Wind. Not everyone has to buy a Land rover. As someone in my 20s I can't afford to buy a Land Rover but I would rather get a Corolla instead of a Land Wind. Frankly speaking, you won't be able to sell that car in India. People who are really brand conscious and have money would buy the original, those who don't have money would go for something else.

As the article said, it's a small unknown Chinese company. Small chinese company might copy product, but your entire industry is a clone of Hollywood. Copying movie script doesn't even require much thinking. If India ever manage Chinese manufacturing capability, rest assured India would be a much much bigger copycat.

take your own advice.

Since you quoted me again, I'll respond. While it is true some companies buy into the country, but Xiaomi didn't, Apple didn't, BMW, Lexus,

China is the number 1 trading nation, we didn't get there by people not buying our stuff, that doesn't mean China is in the upper echelon in terms of goods and services, and neither is India. The fact people buy Tata, doesn't mean anything, other than people buy it.

People buy Lenovo, and Huawei, doesn't mean it's the best there is.

I never said people didn't know Tata made it hidden that it owned Range Rover, but it's British Engineering and life style as the trademark, I'm not dissing the Rover here. I'm simply saying if India pushed it's own brand out the door, it will fail just as miserably as the Chinese brands did before.

As to English PM, he does the same with Chinese businessmen, so what, nobody cares. That's doesn't mean anything other than money is money everywhere.

As it stands, the UK places far more importance on China than India, as does the US. Don't take my word for it, there's US and UK people on this board, they'll tell you.

If you want to know if you got prestige out of it, read any message board in an Indian article for the NYT, or something and you will see what they think of you.

Range Rover in China is popular, but only because it is British.

Again I'm not saying the copy is good, simply, it will evolve into something down the line as so many have done before, maybe not under the same name, but certainly by some of the same people and money.

@Genesis

I just want to address the topic at hand instead of getting into a whole thing about countries. Just think about this. Someone spent time designing that car. Somebody paid millions of dollars for that design. Now someone jumps in and makes the same thing for less because they didn't spend the money on R&D. How is that fair? This Chinese company is selling it for a PROFIT. It's not like they're giving it away to the needy. So they are making money off someone else's hard work.

Right now, China doesn't have too many internationally recognized brands. But with all the R&D money you're spending and with standard of living rising in China, soon you're gonna find the shoe is on the other foot where poorer countries are ripping off your designs and selling it for cheaper. Then I'd like to see if you have the same ambiguous stance on copyright infringements.

I understand where you are coming from, I know how valuable an idea is, believe me.

i'm not here to justify it, and I'm not here to defend it. It's what we are doing, I told you the reason, and when we have brands that are sold across the globe for innovation and quality, we are going to sue the hell out of anyone who dare to copy us.

Bottom line, we are hypocrites, powerful hypocrites. You know what another word for that is? Super Power.

I'm not going to hold myself to the same standard I hold others, that's just how I feel, I'm not blind to what I am and I'm not going to change who I am.

That's not being a hypocrite or a super power, that's being a blatant petty thief. And that's the reason why Chinese will never earn the same respect as Germany or Japan.

I don't think you are getting the point. First of all, don't look at my Country's flag as I am not comparing "Brand" vale of India and China so most of your analysis is wrong above. Point is straightforward and simple, Will you find it offensive when your hard work is copied without given due credit or not ? If your answer is Yes then we have a discussion here else there is no point of discussion.

And come on, if it would have been a small company copying Mobile or Ipad, your logic can make a little sense but Car? Seriously, It is car? Who would trust about its quality when it is cheap knock off.
