Chinese PM may visit Pakistan in December

ISLAMABAD – As Pakistan and China are set to celebrate 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations next year, Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao is expected to visit Pakistan next month, sources told TheNation on Friday.

Chinese Premier’s visit to Pakistan will further bring the two brotherly nations close to each other. It is important to mention here that President Asif Ali Zardari is currently in China on a state visit. According to details available through diplomatic channel, President Asif Zardari congratulated the Chinese Premier and people on the successful inauguration of the 16th Asian Games and thanked them for the very warm welcome and hospitality accorded to the Pakistan delegation.

According to officials here in Islamabad, 2011 will mark the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and China.

Meanwhile, visit of the Chinese premier to Pakistan next month will show how the two brotherly countries give importance to their relationships.

“Taking into account our special relations and our strategic partnership, China is ready to work with Pakistan to take the opportunity of the 60th anniversary to further expand friendly cooperation and bring the bilateral relations to new heights,” Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan said on Friday.

President Asif Ali Zardari, during his recent visit to China, spoke highly of the Chinese government and people who, over the years, have been providing unselfish and unconditional help and support to Pakistan.


In the backdrop of the great loss of lives and property inflicted by the floods that hit Pakistan last July, the Chinese government has pledged a total of $250 million humanitarian assistance to Pakistan.

The Chinese people have also been lending a helping hand in a variety of ways to help their Pakistan brethren.

A Chinese reconstruction survey delegation visited the flood-affected areas in Pakistan recently and assured China’s all-out support of the reconstruction and rehabilitation efforts of the brotherly country.

Apart from the achievements both Pakistan and China have more potentials to explore in fields of trade, investment, defence, people-to-people contacts and others.

Wen Jiabao visit to Pakistan will lead to increased trade with China and more investments by China’s public and private companies in the future.

China is already challenging the EU and the US in the top-three ranking of Pakistan’s largest trading partners as it has increased investment in numerous sectors, including port development, roads, railways, mobile telephony, communication technology, hydro and thermal power, mining, electronics, and nuclear energy. It is important to mention here that China has already supported Pakistan in its goal of building natural gas pipeline from Iran.

ISLAMABAD – The government has summoned the joint session of Parliament on December 18 in the morning, where Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao will address.

Sources in the National Assembly said that over the directives of Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani the preparations for the joint session of Parliament were initiated and special invitations were being prepared in this regard. Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, all governors and chief ministers, chief of armed forces and diplomats will be invited in the joint session of parliament.

Special security arrangement will be made to avert any untoward incident and no one would be allowed to enter in the parliament without entrance pass.

Chinese Prime Minister Wen Jiabao is coming to Pakistan on invitation of Islamabad in mid-December and a security teams for reviewing the arrangements had already arrived here. National Assembly Speaker Dr Fehmida Mirza will chair the joint the session.
