This time, fans took matters to the field, where Hong Kong game-watchers booed during China's national anthem on Thursday's match between Hong Kong and Bhutan

Hong Kong supporters entered the World Cup qualifying match in Mong Kok stadium with signs reading "HK till I die" and "Hong Kong Power". After the Bhutan anthem (which the crowd was silent for), the stadium was quickly filled with loud boos and shouts once the March of the Volunteers (義勇軍進行曲) began playing. For the Bhutan players, who likely knew little about the (at least most recent) conflicts between Hong Kong and the mainland, the situation was incredibly confusing.

Many mainland netizens who watched the game, which was broadcast on CCTV, took to Weibo to express their anger.

Extremely shameful a national anthem is almost sacred whether it be from any country. In my case i have always been quiet even when the Indian anthem plays in a cricket match and i see indians doing the same in return for ours
