Chinese netizens pissed after HK soccer fans boo during national anthem : Shanghaiist

Tensions between Hong Kong and mainland football fans, already intensified after that whole CFA poster controversy, just got a whole lot worse. This time, fans took matters to the field, where Hong Kong game-watchers booed during China's national anthem on Thursday's match between Hong Kong and Bhutan

Hong Kong supporters entered the World Cup qualifying match in Mong Kok stadium with signs reading "HK till I die" and "Hong Kong Power". After the Bhutan anthem (which the crowd was silent for), the stadium was quickly filled with loud boos and shouts once the March of the Volunteers (義勇軍進行曲) began playing. For the Bhutan players, who likely knew little about the (at least most recent) conflicts between Hong Kong and the mainland, the situation was incredibly confusing.

Many mainland netizens who watched the game, which was broadcast on CCTV, took to Weibo to express their anger.

User 叫我小王就够了 wrote: "I wonder where Hong Kongers get their 'pride' and 'superiority'? To boo the national anthem during an event like this? My heart hurts!"

"Hong Kong's behavior will only provoke greater conflicts. Is Hong Kong completely Westernized from Britain's colonization?" another user said.

"A bunch of separatist bastards!" said another.

A Hong Kong Facebook user replied: "This shows mainland netizens that if we win against China in our next game, someone might actually wave the Hong Kong flag!"

Hong Kong beat Bhutan 7-0 on Thursday's game and will play against China on September 3.

From the 6-9 seconds mark, I can hear someone shouting in Vietnamese "one two, one two..."....???? or was that Cantonese?
