Chinese netizens have mocked the "dramatic" G7 photos of world leaders by comparing them with the harmonious photos of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

Several versions of the G7 photo have been posted online. There's the French, Italian and US version, an oil painting and a "Last Supper" version.

The photo was first posted by German Chancellor Angela Merkel's office on Instagram on Saturday when the Group of Seven Summit brought together leaders, including US President Donald Trump, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Theresa May.

The first G7 photo that went viral online shows Merkel standing along with other world leaders, with both of her hands on top of a narrow desk while staring at a seated Trump with crossed arms and a smirk on his face.

"Ordinary Chinese don't care about G7 but the photo triggered interest among Chinese netizens," Liu Weidong, a research fellow at the Institute of American Studies of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, told the Global Times.

"The photo presents an unequal and antagonistic G7 group. It's complicated. Each leader shows a distinct personality - Germany challenging the US, and Abe being submissive to Trump," Liu said.

Chinese netizens also compared the photo with one from the SCO summit showing Chinese President Xi Jinping, Russian President Vladimir Putin and other leaders from SCO member nations smiling.

The WeChat account of People's Daily released the two photos together in one article, titled "Check those pictures! Two summits in one day, two photos, huge difference."

The article has been widely circulated on Chinese internet, receiving over 100,000 views.

WeChat user "Guoyadong" said, "This is the difference between a responsible power and irresponsible power. A responsible nation is always respected by others."

Merkel says EU ready to retaliate in escalating trade war with U.S.

(Xinhua) 07:15, June 12, 2018

German chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) has sent a warning to U.S. President Donald Trump that the European Union (EU) stands ready to retaliate in an escalating trade war between the two transatlantic powers.

"We will not allow ourselves to be bamboozled repeatedly," Merkel said on German public television "ARD" on Sunday night. The chancellor's comments were made shortly after the U.S. president surprisingly withdrew support for a hard-won joint declaration on free trade signed at the recent Group of Seven (G7) meeting in La Malbaie, Canada.

Merkel described the circumstance that Trump announced his last-minute change of heart via Twitter, an unconventional channel for high-level diplomatic exchanges, as both "sobering" and "disheartening." While the federal government considered the final summit document to still be legally-binding, Germany and the European Union (EU) would not sit and watch idly as the U.S. increasingly resorted to protectionist policies.

According to Merkel, Germany had little choice but to react firmly to the erratic and unilateral approach adopted by Trump if did not want to appear "open to blackmail." The ongoing deterioration of transatlantic relations showcased that Europe had "relied too easily" on Washington in the past and would now have to work towards a more unified and stronger EU to preserve its autonomy on the global stage.

Reacting to the chaotic end of the G7 conference, the Free Democratic Party (FDP) urged Merkel to appear before the federal parliament and explain to delegates how Berlin intended to move forward. FDP parliamentary secretary Marco Buschmann told the German press agency DPA that it was "absolutely necessary" for delegates to be thoroughly de-briefed following the "unprecedented scandal" at the summit.

Speaking to the newspaper "Rheinische Post" on Monday, Peter Beyer (CDU), the federal government's official commissioner for transatlantic relations, admitted that the U.S. withdrawal from the G7 joint statement was a "diplomatic disaster." At the same time, however, Beyer noted that Trump was already known to be "volatile and unreliable" and that may hence change his mind once again on whether to support the conference resolution on free trade.

In the meanwhile, Beyer said, the remaining six members of the group were best-advised to maintain a united front. The EU and other countries affected by new U.S. tariffs on steel and aluminium imports have already brought a legal challenge against the measures before the World Trade Organization (WTO) in Geneva and are currently developing a catalogue of sensitive U.S. exports, including Bourbon whisky and Harley-Davidson motorcycles, to be hit with retaliatory duties.

Speaking to Xinhua on Monday, Juergen Matthes of German Economic Institute (IW), said that Trump had "transformed the G7 into a de-facto G6." While the U.S. could not be formally excluded from the group, Washington had hereby strengthened the desire of the remaining members who were dedicated to multilateralism to cooperate more closely.

Matthes argued that the Trump's "undiplomatic style and threats" made a response on behalf of U.S. trading partners inevitable. Nevertheless, the global community would ultimately just have to "sit out the era of the Twitter-president" and attempt to ward off "irreparable damage to the global trading system" as best as possible.

He is not yet that significant of a leader. For China, Russia and its immediate neighbors (Mongolia) come first.

We fought against US, and we know she is very strong, she can overthrown any regime in EU , in Asia (except VN) if she want. Just like she could beat both German-JP at the same time easily in WW2.

So, both EU-CN may got chaos in 2023 due to Trump's bully and due to u r so weak, of course .

Without soviet and China's support, vn monkey is a piece of shit, which can not even make a bullet...

Vietnam is not among G2 or G20, but as a UN country, it's among GX (X=number of UN members).
Congrats

Our friend @Viva_Viet should run for VCP office. He has full of confidence :enjoy:

Do you think Trump will still be alive (and functional) by 2023?

And what is so special about 2023?

Hint: 2023 is as special as 1945

Just forget Trump, without Trump, US will re-join TPP as Obama expected and its even worse for CN-EU

It may be too late for the US to act by 2023. China will have achieved near parity in GDP nominal by then.

Besides, I think no country in their sane mind can trust the US regime now, after seeing how the US treats their most precious allies in Europe as well as littlest vassals like Japan and Canada.
