CCP Media Calls on US Ambassador to Declare Assets, Netizens Demand CCP Officials Do the Same

A Chinese state run newspaper requesting US Ambassador Gary Locke to disclose his personal assets has become the latest buzz online.

On May 14, Beijing Daily's official blog published an article saying, (quote) “Locke lives in the compound of the US Embassy, costing hundreds of millions of dollars to build. He rides in a luxury bulletproof vehicle. Expenses of his family and staff are paid by US taxpayers. How can this type of luxury be described as plain? May I ask why Ambassador Locke does not release the information?”

Chinese netizens swooped on the article, and found in fact, Locke's personal assets' were made public two years ago.

The question microbloggers and netizens are now asking is for Chinese Communist Party officials to publish their personal assets.

But this may be problematic, according to China commentator Zhou Yang.

[Zhou Yang, China Commentator]:
“To publish CCP officials personal assets cannot be implemented. Why? Because they are all corrupt and with complicated connections.”

The same day Beijing Daily published their article, Study Times also published an article. It states the 1994's National People's Congress includes “Assets Declaration Articles” into the legislation. CCP official’s declaration of personal assets has never been implemented.

[Zhu Xinxin, Freelance Writer]:
“Beijing Daily asks an ambassador of another country to declare personal assets. This is ridiculous. How is Beijing Daily in a position to ask?”

Netizen “Aimei” says the communist regime is just playing tit for tat, punishing the US Embassy for assisting the blind activist Chen Guangcheng.

[Aimei, China Netizen]:
“Publishing a story about Locke's assets is a revenge tactic. Chen Guangcheng escaped house arrest and went to the Embassy to ask for help. So from this article, it’s like they’re saying to the US Embassy, ‘How dare you get involved.’”

Ha Ha Ha, the Chinese communists didn't know that high-ranking officials in developed worlds declare their asset and release tax returns publicly.
