China declares 2018 as Turkey Tourism Year

China has declared 2018 as the Turkey Tourism Year, the Association of Turkish Travel Agencies said in a message Aug. 7.

In order to expand ties in the sphere of tourism, Beijing and Ankara plan to hold a number of events that contribute to the increase of tourist flow from China to Turkey, according to the message.

Earlier, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said during his visit to China that Ankara is interested in attracting tourists from China.

Cavusoglu noted that Turkey expects to receive at least 3 million tourists from China in 2018.

It should be noted that 313,000 tourists from China visited Turkey in 2016.

Turkey’s military electronics manufacturer Aselsan was the top performer in today’s Istanbul market rally, with a 5% gain on news of an unspecified foreign contract. Aselsan is up nearly 200% in the past year, the top performer but one (a mining company) in the Istanbul 30 Index.

Aselsan’s stock surge reflects the growing integration of Turkey’s economy into China’s regional ambitions. Last May it reportedly was awarded a contract to build weapons pods for Chinese-designed fighters manufactured by Pakistan under Chinese license.

Turkey promises to eliminate anti-China media reports

BEIJING (Reuters) - Turkey regards China's security as akin to its own and will move to stamp out any anti-China reports in its media, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said on Thursday, after meeting his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi.

China and Turkey have repeatedly vowed to step up cooperation on security and counter-terrorism, amid Beijing's concerns about ethnic Uighurs from its restive far western region of Xinjiang fighting with militants in the Middle East.

"We take China's security as our security," Cavusoglu said, speaking through a Chinese translator during a joint news briefing with Wang in Beijing.

"We absolutely will not allow in Turkey any activities targeting or opposing China. Additionally, we will take measures to eliminate any media reports targeting China," he added, but did not give details.

72 percent of Turkish citizens see US as security threat
WASHINGTON

Fear of the U.S. is on the rise in many counties, including Turkey, according to a global survey released on Aug. 1, which says some 72 percent of Turks see U.S. as a threat to the country’s security.

The Washington-based Pew Research Center surveyed 41,953 people in 38 countries over the course of around 11 weeks to find what were seen as the top threats around the world.

In Turkey, the United States was perceived as a greater threat to security than Russia or China.

one thing is for sure, as long as erdogan and his party stay in power, the relationship between turkey and the west will only get worsen. Erdogan and his party fear the west wanting to topple them through undemocratic way like coup, while the west who already don't trust the turk before, now the trust is even lower under erdogan's regime. So it is all depend on turkish citizens whether their country will be closer to the west or the east in the future.
