The new Type 096 are rumored to be able to carry 24 SLBMs, compared to the 12 of the existing Type 094 Jin class SSBN. The new class is also rumored to feature a regular shape hull similar to modern western SSBN designs. (The two previous classes of Chinese SSBNs Type 092 and 094 feature a hump which is used to host the balistic missiles).

The new Type 096 will complement the existing Type 094 Jin class SSBN. The PLAN has 3-4 Jin class submarines in its fleet. The first-of-class was constructed at Huludao Shipyard in Huludao, Liaoning and launched in July 2004. Type 094s may deploy up to 12 JL-2.

PLAN Type 032 Test Submarine was used for the development (and test launches) of JL-2.

JL-2 are Chinese second-generation intercontinental-range submarine-launched ballistic missile (SLBM) with a two-stage, solidliquid-fuelled propulsion design. The missiles are thought to be able to deliver nuclear payloads (multiple warheads) between ranges of 8,000 and 14,000 km. JL-2's design is based on the mobile land-based DF-31 ballistic missile. Its development started in the early nineties. Chinese Navy Type 032 test submarine was used development and trials of the JL-2. JL-2 is now fully deployed onboard Type 094, will be deployed onboard the future chinese SSBN (Type 096).

How many 096 PLA Navy is gonna induct?

I think looking at our arsenal of nuke numbers, how many missiles do we have to put into these subs?

Cause even 5 would be 120. Then there is the previous generations, so. Probably not in great numbers, besides a war with US is not probable, so these nuke subs are not really that important.

It's like American F-22 in theory, it's a great weapon, in reality, the taliban has no advance fighters to engage American F-22s.

Type 096 can carry 24 SLBM. The missile on it will be the JL-3 SLBM which is based on the DF-41.

JL-3 will have a range between 10,000-12,000 km with 8-10 MIRVs.

There will be 8 type 096 SSBNs built.

Therefore with 8 type 096 SSBNs, we will have 1,536-1,920 nuclear warheads.

China is signalling it's intent to match the Russians and the US in the number and sophistication of it's nuclear deterrent with the Type-096 SSBN. By 2020 the induction should be complete of the submarines.

If there are 24 SLBMS carried by one submarine and 8-10 MIRVS on each missiles, then that means that 192-240 targets could be hit by just one submarine.

By 2020s, type 096 go well with our aircraft battle group.

Why does that first pic look like our Ohio class SSGN?

In reality other countries have fighters to try to match up against the F22, sooooo its not really important then.

i don't think he is yankee, he is vietnamese.

But its important for China to induct the weapons first before bragging about it. You don't want the Chinese to have the reputation of this one known 2030 superpower .
It's not bragging about, it's transparency and confidence.
