Chinese J-10 'benefited from the Lavi project'
By Robert Hewson
19 May 2008

Russian aerospace engineers have confirmed to Jane's that China's Chengdu J-10 fighter aircraft benefited from significant, direct input from Israel's Lavi programme - including access to the Israel Aircraft Industries (IAI) Lavi aircraft itself.

In a number of interviews Jane's has talked at length with several engineers, designers and technical specialists - some of whom have been working with their Chinese counterparts for decades and have had first-hand experience on Chinese military projects. They have provided detailed accounts of the assistance given to various Chinese manufacturers and their military aircraft projects. This has included extensive design and performance modelling, wind-tunnel testing and advanced aerodynamic design input.

Senior Russian engineers who spoke to Jane's recalled their many visits to Chengdu, and elsewhere in China, some of which began in the 1980s. Jane's was told how Chengdu officials of the highest level stated how they had one of the IAI Lavi prototypes in their facilities. Describing his conversations with Chengdu concerning possession of a Lavi aircraft, one Jane's source commented: "I did not consider that to be a revelation ... doesn't everyone know that already?"

It is not possible to independently verify the Russian comments. The charge of Lavi technology transfer has been made before, but this time the claims come from individuals with sustained personal experience of the programme. Both Chinese and Israeli officials have long refuted any purported links between the J-10 and the Lavi.

Chinese J-10 'benefited from the Lavi project' - Jane's Defence Systems News

An old article with no follow up comment, should i safely assume that this attempt was to bash the J-10 project and not something worth while, after all whats the purpose of an old article being posted here.:disagree:
By the way this news has many times being already posted here in different threads, so better luck next time in your quest to find something you can hold against the J-10.

Lol ^ I think it's Indian habit that when they wake up they just google anti pakistani and anti chinese articles and then post them here without contributing.Just copy and paste.

I second that.

Official Chinese sources have already acknowledged the Lavi design influences. The Israelis tried to sell the design to China during the Python missile deal. The Lavi team taught Chinese designers how to design a modern aircraft. The Chinese side took Israeli concepts and designed a bigger aircraft to meet PLAAF requirements. The J-10 is to the Lavi what the Super Hornet is to the YF-17.

Ignore any J-10 published specs because official specs are non-existent. Because of the prevailing belief that the J-10 is an exact clone of the Lavi among the public, web authors simply copied and pasted Lavi specs for the J-10. The self-referential nature of the internet caused even reputable sites to repeat this mistake. If you look up J-10 dimensional specs and it says "length: 14.57 meters", go ahead and ignore the rest.

This s like visiting a ghost from the past .Deja vu. Guys thistopic has been discussed to death. Please dont bore us to death. Whatever input it may havereceived from LAvi i known and it is also known that things have radically moved on since thn. There s simply no sense in revisiting a topic like this for jingoistic chest thumping. MODS could you please lock this thread and throw the key away
Regards
Araz

Ridiculous comment. What makes you think this was any attempt to bash anyone. Story is old fine. Deserves to be removed from the thread.

just go to jane's recent page. It appeares there even if its old. It's a news and posted with no intentions of anything anti .Although you will see a lot of idiots here claiming it to be indigenous.

If you wanna see habits , go to the threads for indian defence and see how many are posting crap.
