Chinese doctor faints at surgery room after 48 hours of work

This type of dedication to work is something in Chinese and Japanese culture. I admire you guys for this and keep trying myself to do what ever i do in the best and most efficient way.

This work ethic and hard work is what India lacks big time.

Chinese and Japanese people are truly some of the best cultures on the planet. Admire your discipline, dedication and hard work guys

Over working a person for 48 hours is not work ethic it is either serious addiction disorder or slavery..

Neither disorder or slavery. It is their sense of responsibility that push themselves to the limit. Just like many engineers in Chinese defense industries, like the chief engineer of J-15 Mr. Luo Yang, who worked themselves to the end for nothing other than the honor of their motherland. They are heroes in peace time, and will be remembered for generations of Chinese to come.

It is a cultural thing, when the west sees that Chinese parents make their children study around the clock or send the kids to training facilites for harsh training for the future olympians , they think the Chinese parents are crazy and have no love for their children. We do love our children but we show it in dfferent ways from the west, we just want to get our children prepared and help them reach their utmost potentials, the last thing the Chinese parents want to see is their children being underdogs in the future society. The cultural differences run deep.

Go to any government hospitals in Delhi, there resident doctors also work like this.

am not talking only in-terms of doctors. I am talking in terms of a culture, everything just look at our manufacturing quality, the quality of every other labor force do we have the discipline and commitment to work like them no way.

No its because people believe that work is worship. Its a way of being content that we did the best of our services. Thats the crux.

Exactly. I have close relatives that are studying to be neurosurgeons that don't come home for days at end, all the time running from one surgery to another. I wouldn't have believed that somebody can work for days without sleep if I hadn't seen it for myself.

Although the doctor here needs to commended for his/her service, Doctors everywhere are an extremely overworked breed. No need to make it a cultural thing, for fcuk's sake!

I am a software developer and have been to both China and Japan I know how these people work they are so hard working and they try to make their work as perfect as possible.

There is nothing to feel offended here living with them i know its because of their culture that they are this way. I deeply respect the Japanese way of life.

I only corrected you on the facts. Overworked doctors, which is what the whole discussion is about, is nothing specific to China or Japan. I bet our doctors, knowing somebody from very close quarters, are equally overworked if not worse.

I agree that our people need to work on their work ethics, but to generalize it to all professions is not doing it any justice.

Besides, I believe work ethics evolve over time. If I am not mistaken, there was a time, in the not so distant past, you could hardly differentiate between the Indian work ethics/productivity/discipline and those of Chinese. But the Chinese, owing to much stiffer competition induced by market forces, have evolved and improved in the last few decades, leaving us behind.

The same can't be said about Japanese though - who have had a much longer history of legendary work ethics and unquestioned loyalty to the king and the country.

This is quite normal. Some operations last more than 24 hours.
