Chinese C-130 Aircrafts

There were the Lockheed-Martin L-100 (Civilian version of the famous C-130 Hercules) airlifting cargos around China.

Three were imported by the CAAC during the Sino-US "honey moon" years of late 1980s. After 13 years of service, they were decommissioned in 2001.

China Defense Blog: Before Y-8

Why doesn't China make and market Cargo planes? No export restrictions, lots of nations, from Africa to South Asia will buy em. Flood, earthquake relief support.

Chinia is still behind on engine and system engineering that's why. It will take time.

I don't think Chinese have much problem with turbo-prop engines, it is the jet engines they have to further work on. New turbo-prop transport planes Y-8 will have capability similar to C-130.
