China’s Top Chipmaker Achieves Breakthrough Despite US Curbs

Still good if China can be totally independent in 7nm by 2024-2025 and so 6-7 years behind the West.

Then it has a realistic chance of catching up by 2030.
It’s kind of crazy that China is single-handedly taking on the entire west, basically building an entire supply chain and research foundation that currently spans and exists over 7 to 8 countries.

No big deal as China could within 15-20 years become richer than the whole West combined.

A lot of the "wealth" of the West is in its technology and if China can match or even surpass that then it will be a richer than all of them put together.

Here in the UK they are teaching their children about 500 different "genders" they can identify as and the leaders are bad or awful with little understanding of science or technology. I don't suppose it is much better in the rest of the West?

.
China’s imports of ICs amounted to US$432 billion in 2021, a 23.6 per cent increase from the previous year, according to data released by the General Administration of Customs. China’s spending on imported semiconductors equals what the country spends on grain and crude oil combined.

Education and the teaching of science and mathematics has been piss poor in the West for a long time. But the West managed to stay in front of the technology curve by significantly recruiting talent from all over the world, most of it from Asia.

Many Chinese students nowadays prefer to return to China, so that resource there is drying up. But the West can still lean in heavily on recruiting talent from the rest of Asia/Europe/S America/Africa.

That's exactly why this is an existential fight for China. They are pouring in resources on this like it is the Manhattan Project.

You are replying to a new Indian and is probably just here to troll.

There is no magic in semiconductor manufacturing and like with jet engines China will probably have both solved by 2030 with brains and money, although it will still be around 10 years behind the West in jet engine tech even by 2030.

European talent is just passing it around the West and with Africa you may get the odd white S African like Musk who turns up once in a while.

Musk and talent? His only talent is failing up, not an engineer, not scientist and a piss poor coder whose first web venture had to be rewritten with the help of a family friend before it could be pawned off to Compaq which promptly went out of business shortly after the acquisition.

If acquiring gov't subsidies, taking over already existing company and claiming their credit is a talent, then Musk is the biggest to come of the whole West.

Lol. Seems there has been lots of new innovation in China. In sandpaper technology.

Wonder whose chip they stole this time?

The biggest difference between Chinese and Indians is that Indian nationalism only exists in the mouth, while Chinese nationalism exists in action.

I have a friend who used to work in India for a long time. He told me that India is very dirty and ugly. Those Indians with higher incomes only like to stay at home or go to shopping malls, unlike Chinese people who like to go to public places such as parks. Because apart from homes and shopping malls, other parts of India are dirty and ugly.

An Indian will buy a car as soon as he makes money, because it will separate him from other dirty Indians. The streets are usually only four feet wide, and are full of messy electric poles, open drains, and saliva on the walls.

Indians will only be patriotic on twitter, and will only show their nationalism on twitter. But when India needs them to act for it, they will disappear. They will continue to spit recklessly on the streets, and then show nationalism on twitter.

And we Chinese love our country and nation with actions. Our streets are always clean and tidy, and we will always have a large number of volunteers cleaning.

We have 1.1 billion internet users, twice the number of Internet users in India. But we are far less crazy than Indian netizens on the Internet. We like practical action.

There are already great differences between China and India in the character and quality of their people. They are completely different.

When you have covering yourself and everything in cow dung and drinking cow piss as part of your ‘culture’, I think it is correct to say being dirty is not a con, but a celebrated and worshipped feature of hinduland ’culture’

Forget about ICs and jet engines, they can't even make decent ATGM
During an exercise, Chinese WZ-10 fires an ATGM towards a target and it bounce off. https://t.co/uxXRKYlOdN

Taiwan will send a high-profile delegation of semiconductor manufacturers to India to take forward cooperation in the crucial sector, including possible collaboration under India’s programme of production linked incentives (PLI) for large-scale electronics manufacturing

Well to be fair, using India’s sanitation as a standard is a very low bar. It was not that long ago when China wasn’t very clean either compared to its neighbors like Japan, Taiwan, Singapore etc. China has come a long way since then but to be honest there are still many areas that look poorly maintained. When you compare the rural areas of China to that of the US, the US is far more charming and beautifully taken care of. China does have some beautiful rural areas but most of the areas are still quite lacking in overall aesthetics and maintenance when compared to the west. China’s cities overall are much more pleasant and safe than American cities for the most part though, and at least they don’t have dangerous ghettoes.

Anyways China still has a lot of room for improvement even though it’s come a long way.

Yes.
Putting the word "India" together with "China" is tantamount to insulting ourselves.

its the attitude that's the difference. When China was dirty, people still go to public places together because China has a humanistic culture that values people to people interactions.

because China has an electronics industry. India doesn't import ICs, it just imports the finished electronics.

.
What is breakthrough?

China will never indigenized her IC manufacturing to 3nm, today state of art for next decade.

But China can always do 100nm IC without any need for 3rd country core components. And F22 is using IC of 1990s. So 100nm is ok for China defence needs already.
