Who counts commuter train riders? Indian railways don't run commuter trains. They are run by separate organisation distinct from Indian railways. Indian railways alone does about 8 billion passenger rides a year.Commuter train riders don't count, unlike some superpower.
Where did you get this number? Indian media?Indian railways alone does about 8 billion passenger rides a year.
Passenger kms isn't distinct to Passenger rides? I mean can you not read? One is distance traveled other is ridership. Your trains travel long distance as China is about 3 times India.

I actually believe his number:
When we Chinese usually drive our cars to destinations within a few 100s of kilometers distance, indians have to ride the 'suburban' train like the one above to get even 10 km away and feel proud of...Interesting.
The following table shows the passenger volume of India Railway. Within the 8 billion passengers, 4.6 billion (i.e. 57%) are classified as "suburban".
Could you please tell us what "suburban" means in the Indian Railway dataset? Thanks.

Suburban are trains that run from small towns to cities and not within the city. Urban trains are trains that carry passengers between cities.Interesting.

Well, here is a 2019 one, slightly better?Suburban are trains that run from small towns to cities and not within the city. Urban trains are trains that carry passengers between cities.

Yes. I guarantee that the indian train above carries 10 times the passengers of the Chinese train below, but cover less than 1/10 the distance during the same time ...That could be some suburban train on a busy day. Sure.
Thanks.Suburban are trains that run from small towns to cities and not within the city.
