I will not deny that. China has gone miles ahead with R&D and their government just to compete against US has encouraged the support. Look how positive it has turned out to be. About time we re-transform our socialist-stupid Soviet era policies that are still in place only to scam people in false names. For that we need a new government. Vietnamese GDP per capita $1170, spends 0.19% of GDP on R&D.

Indian GDP per capita $1370, spends 0.9% of GDP on R&D.

Vietnam and India has comparable GDP per capita but drastically different R&D investment ratio. If I were you I would spend more time thinking about Vietnam rather than joining Indians in bashing China. Because India has a future but your country doesn't, unless she begins to spend more on R&D.

BTW, I don't think Chinese should take the overtaking Japan stuff too seriously as it's most likely based on PPP. In nominal terms China is still behind Japan and very likely Germany as well.

R&D is not all for factories,but still Lenovo is the world second biggest PC producer,Haier is pretty well known in Europe,in the past you dont see USSR had many world's famous brand but no one denied it was a scientifically and technologically very advanced,no other countries can do their top feats in space techology other than US.and what China achieved in the frontline of science also belongs to an very elite group.

electronics and home appliances dont really need too much high tech,China also can make all of them,it takes time for brand recognition.actually now most of those things are made in China,China already had the technology to make them.but I really dont think they are that high tech.

IBM had a market share of about 9% when Lenovo took over in 2004. In 2010 Lenovo's share was 7%
