LOL, here in Hong Kong we really don't need anymore Vietnamese immigrants.

Hong Kong city has only 7 million people, but our economy is TWICE the size of Vietnam's economy even though they have almost 100 million people.

Also... like you said, Shanghai and Beijing are already surpassing Hong Kong. I've been to both Beijing and Shanghai, and they look more modern than Hong Kong does, because their infrastructure and buildings are much newer.

Actually, HK still way way ahead of Beijing and Shanghai in terms of the quality of everything, especially people. Of course, we all know most of Hong Kong's growth happened after '97. HK wasn't nearly so wealthy before '97.

Yes This is way to go ahead in world.
Every developed country in world invests heavily in R &D. Because in the end R& D gives back returns to the country or organisation which has invested.

I think India also should definitely hike its percent GDP investment in R&D.

However Shanghai and Beijing have much greater futures than Hong Kong. Here in HK we have already reached the top of our potential, and our power is mostly in fianance.

Other Chinese cities have greater political/technological/cultural power, especially Beijing and Shanghai. On the world city rankings, Beijing and Shanghai are often ahead of HK due to these other factors.

And best of all, these other Chinese cities are still growing at 10%+ and have not reached anywhere close to their full potential. Wait ten years, and then look where Beijing/Shanghai/Shenzhen/Tianjin are, that will be something that is truly amazing.

It is the time to show something new.

The WS-10B engine is already entering into the mass production stage.

Meanwhile the WS-15 engine will also soon enter into the production stage.

As it makes strides towards high tech economy, it will become a low population high productivity industrial giant. Whole the mundane jobs like sewing nike's can then be outsourced to incredible India!

IMHO, Beijing is okay, and commercially Shanghai is fine. But other places in China range from ordinary to crappy.... relative to first world standards of course, not comparing to really scary places like India or Vietnam. (I was scared of getting electrocuted by wires hanging down on to the streets in Vietnam, and I'll never go to India unless I wanted new bateria colonies partying in my intestines.)

What really impresses me is the quality of the people in HK, both the high IQ professions in Central and the hard-working commoners in Kowloon. HK is multiethnic and surrounded by Western influence. Yet the people there are proud to be Chinese and proud of Chinese traditions, hold their heads up high in front of whitie, filipino maids and ah san!

It is already happening, since the really non-technological cheap goods like cloths and shoes have been made much less in China than before.

semiconductors are just one field,the way to measure them can vary a lot.and China's scientific growth is undeniably fast.in recent years ,we sent people to the space,space station docking,numerous rockets launching,steal fighters,steal warships,super computers,polar exploration ships,ice breakers,deep sea submersible....so many great scientific and technological achievements in the world's scientific very frontline.no other countries achieved those many top top technological feats beside former superpowers US and Russia.

Had the Jewish media across the world not start hundreds of so called "lists" and "ranks," Who would give a sh*t to these kind of rankings? What purpose does it serve??? You need R&D and develop, you invest, otherwise, you stay put for the previous budget or even reduce it for whatever reason you saw fit. These so called lists serve nothing and ain't 100 meter dash. This is dumb. You know what I am saying? There is a quality factor and margin of humongous errors of these so called lists and ranks. This sort of thing is only self-serving.
