China's R&D investment 2nd in the world

Hong Kong was built by the hardworking Han Chinese, not the Brits.

If the Brits were deserved to take away the credit, then why they still left many of their former colonies so poor?

Those colonies have far more natural resources than Hong Kong, and they shouldn't become so poor.

Exactly. Look at the British colonies in Africa... like Somalia, Nigeria, and Zimbawabe. Or the British colonies in the Middle East, like Yemen, Iraq and Afghanistan.

But the worst, were the Native Americans and Indigenous Australians, who faced nearly complete extermination from their own lands.

Hong Kong and Singapore were lucky, we didn't have many resources, so the British left us to ourselves. It was the hardworking Chinese in these two cities that built them into what they are today.

Having been in the PRC and many other developing nations including india, there is no comparison, parts of China are already in the first world, and the rest are catching up fast. There has never been anything like it - in the history of mankind, hundreds of millions out of poverty in a matter of a few decades.

Thank you brother.

I hope all the countries of Asia follow this path. (Except for the one that we both know is just a load of hot air. :azn:)

It's always good to hear my country's ally is doing well.

However it has to come to my mind, that the westerners may try to do a "media war" against China as they are doing with Pakistan.

Another point: There are some Indians who never accepted the existence of Pakistan. As long as China is Pakistan's ally, Pakistan will never be annexed by India.

Hopefully when the war in Afghanistan is over, Pakistan and Afghanistan will unite to form a stronger country.
Pakistan and Afghanistan share the same religion. Pakistan and Afghanistan share a very large ethnic group Puktoons.

Even in the news, Afghani Hazaras have started to come into Peshawar.

I'll say it again, Hong Kong has never had full democracy. Check it yourself, we can vote for up to half the members of LegCo, but all the top leaders have always been made by appointment.

You claim to be a Vietnamese, who prefers a place because it is more "democratic"?

You do know that Vietnam is communist right?

Why and what the heck you thinking about? You know what are you saying? I know Vietnam more than you do indeed. Yes, Vietnam was a communist country but not after "Doi Moi aka Renovation" is not communist no more. Vietnam used Communist as a opposite of Democrat. That's all.

All countries who got communist or pure will got sanctions by EU, US like N.Kore, Cuba.

I definitely prefer it after 1997.

It is unacceptable for a majority Chinese city like Hong Kong to be ruled by a white British expat (Chris Patten), who cannot even speak a word of Chinese.

Of course it is ten thousand times better to have our leader as a fellow Chinese person. Colonialism was a scar on the face of history.

Beautiful HongKong

Now, everything said and done. You can denied all you want but the fact and truth still remain. Without Brits, Potuges, HK, Macao and Shanghai will be a dead cities.

That's a most thing I hate to dabate with, I like to debate who could accept right and worng. Will you?

Beautiful HongKong

Thank you for the pictures brother.

But I think Beijing and Shanghai look more advanced than Hong Kong now, we need to update our infrastructure lol.

Anyway, I consider ALL Chinese cities to be a part of me. So I am proud no matter which Chinese city is successful, doesn't matter if it is HK or Beijing or Shanghai or Shenzhen.

but why Shanghai?Shanghai is always part of China, under this government's since 1949.more than 60 years. the newest city with much higher index per capita wise is Shenzhen, barely 30 years old, already the richest city in mainland China.

Please, spare us with your joke.

Shanghai was never colonized, what it has anything to do with the Brits?

And Hong Kong became rich which also had the reason with 1 million Shanghainese moved to Hong Kong back in 1949.

Since most of these Shanghainese were pro-KMT rich people, they had brought a lot investment in Hong Kong that created more development.

Even Hong Kong's biggest media and entertainment TVB was founded by a rich Shanghainese family.

Haha that is a bad excuse. Somalia and India were also colonized by the British, and Vietnam was colonized by the French.

Then why does a Hong Kong have an average income that is 30 times higher than in Vietnam or India? Why is Hong Kong considered a first-world advanced economy, while Vietnam is backwards and one of the poorest countries in the world?

Oh yeah, there are so many rich Shanghainese in Hong Kong. :)

Hong Kong was originally successful because we acted as a gateway between mainland China and the rest of the world. And also because of the rich mainland immigrants who set up businesses in Hong Kong.

Even my family only came down to Hong Kong a few generations ago (100+ years ago). We were originally of Hakka ancestry, from around the Meizhou area in Guangdong.

The economical contribution to Hong Kong and Taiwan was still made by the Chinese people.

Since 1949, CCP has scared off a lot of rich people in China, and they fled with their wealth to Hong Kong and Taiwan, which had brought more development to these areas.
