What's new

China's Pentagon - New Aircraft Carrier of China ?

:-) More importantly what is its function?

IMO The size and the shape for it to be notice from space.

Which one? The carrier or the building? One poster mentions its a theater or something.

China Built A Nimitz-Class Aircraft Carrier Made Of Concrete

The local government wanted to give Binzhou, a city of four million a spectacular tourist attraction providing entertainment services such as cinemas, shops and restaurants, with a hotel being the crown jewel.

The project started in 2005 but ran out of money in less than a year. The unfinished hull stayed empty until 2008, when a restaurant and bar opened on the upper deck. Things were looking bright for a short period, but the businesses closed down eventually due to high costs and safety concerns about sitting on top of an unfinished concrete structure.

Still, at least some people seemed to like it.

Yes. Perhaps both.

 IMHO like you point out, it is merely a publicity stunt to bring fame to this relatively unknown city. The competition between cities in China for tourists must be fierce.

 Wow. Dining is a concrete Aircraft Carrier is cool. That is pretty creative but No Thanks, I may just skip it!

Well, I had dine on the real USS Nimitz, that did not impress me at all, it's crampy, it's noisy (Try eating when you have a jet blasting off every 5 minutes...).....That's the reason why this concrete Nimitz is doomed....
