China's one-child policy fallout

If india wants progress we should also adopt this (for a short term).later we can bring it back to two child policy.

This will not work in India unless implemented very strictly.
Education is the most effective method of solving India's population problem.

. .
One child policy is definitely an ideal method for a big population country like China, imagine if there was no such policy, what will be the population of China now? 2 billion plus? or more?

No doubt that there is a population problem is clear. What is not clear is the solution. Many want to protect the rights and freedoms of the individual. They may want to do this even at the expense of society as a whole. We must recognize the necessity of population control. I think it can be said in all seriousness that overpopulation is the most formidable problem mankind has ever faced.

Now lets look at India's population issue from other way round which is that population is strength only when you have the power to feed the people, employ the people, and house them. If you do not have that power, population is not merely a minor irritant rather it is a major problem. If you don’t have the capability to feed a single person, then one is too much. :argh::usflag:

China took very bold step to prevent the disaster of population explosion. This is one thing I really appreciate them for, nothing wrong.

Nothing to see here... Same story all across, Pakistan, India, we are all guilty of the same.. Boys, Boys, Boys... Sigh.

"With just over 1.3 billion people (1,330,044,605 as of mid-2008), China is the world's largest and most populous country.

As the world's population is approximately 6.7 billion, China represents a full 20% of the world's population so one in every five people on the planet is a resident of China.

China's population growth has been somewhat slowed by the one child policy, in effect since 1979.

As recently as 1950, China's population was a mere 563 million. The population grew dramatically through the following decades to one billion in the early 1980s.

China's total fertility rate is 1.7, which means that, on average, each woman gives birth to 1.7 children throughout her life. The necessary total fertility rate for a stable population is 2.1; nonetheless, China's population is expected to grow over the next few decades. This can be attributed to immigration and a decrease in infant mortality and a decrease in death rate as national health improves.

By the late 2010s, China's population is expected to reach 1.4 billion. Around 2030, China's population is anticipated to peak and then slowly start dropping.

By 2040, China's population is expected to be 1.45 billion "

-The 1.45 billion figure in 2040 is when population has already peaked and started to drop (!)

-Suppose China revert back to two child policy when population start declining, it is unlikely to lower by much. It is calculated that 800 million is the optimum amount for china.

-The one child policy is estimated to have resulted in 300 million less children born in China during the first 20 years of it's implementation.

-It has now been implemented for 30, so without it China would have approx. 1.75 billion people by now.

-At the time that it was implemented China have slightly less population than India has now

-Therefore China's one China policy is timely and necessary

China needs to modernise completely by 2030 and have the necessary policy in place to brace for aging population

You feel better now ?

Not really. I do not support abortion unless the pregnancy threatens the life of child or mother. There should not be any control or coercion just education to emphasize need for small families. Abortion is first degree premeditated murder.

No,there is very little abortion,if one want have a baby then he will stop using condom, most abortion happenned among yong girls when they conceive at accident~~
There is not whole one-child policy,when the mother is more than 30 years old she can have the second baby;
More important, the concept of people has been changed,we don't want to have many babies, bcs the high cost of raising a baby:Milk powder, health, education from kindergarten to university, housing and so on;30 years ago,we only feed the baby till he married, the cost is very low,but now,we have to provide well level of life, well education and so on.Most people only want to have one or two babies, but poorer the people more babies they want,a Vicious circle

So basicaly it's a TWO CHILD POLICY.
and as you said pover people give birth to more children mainly because of ignorance and more than that, since they are pover they see children as an investment.they think they all will work and bring money and unlike middle class people they dont have to spend money on education and living facilities, they will grow up some how.
but when they grow up they will fail to find jobs and good salary and they again will begin to make investment (children).
