Thats pretty impressive comparison of an oil deal to plane deal, where two countries are negotiating with each other and in one just one side is calling shots. Someone said something about IQ!

For some reason every Indian is very concerned tat we should not depend on China as if China is feeding us.,plz keep your concerns to yourselves as none is interested in them. Negotiations are underway and China nominated its own sinopec, not that we have agreed or signed. Nowhere it says implies they are calling the shots, we are also in talks with Russia. Though I would personally want to see sinopec

Iran has become a strategic threat to Pakistan due to her Indian involvement and having growing ambitions to be a regional power. I won't be surprise if many years down the road, there may be a war with Iran and Pakistan. I said this many years ago about Afghanistan and today, Pakistani Army attacked on Afghani posts as they were firing on Pakistani military for days now.

So Pakistan is becoming a Sandwich, one one side, its India, on the other side, its Afghanistan (supported by India and IA has advisers for Northern Alliance who then conduct terrorism inside Pakistan) and on the third side, its Iran (also supported by India and has huge Indian intelligence presence),and now the Chahabar port. So until this whole thing is figured out, getting fuel that's lifeline for Pakistan's economy and daily life, is a serious strategic risk!!

A pipeline is more competitive from iran than LNG which has cost of liquefaction storage and transport..beside Iran does not have the necessary technology to produce LNG.

Spot on...that is what even i was wondering...Why do you need to move around the world when you can get it from your neighour?

I believe Iranian gas is the cheapest. However US will not allow gas pipeline from Iran into Pakistan. Instead US prefers Pak to get if from Turkmenistan or LNG from Qatar. LNG is always more expensive. The reason Chinese companies will not either finance or build the gas pipeline from Iran into Pakistan is that they would face penalties from US.

This LNG pipeline from Gwardar does not make any sense. Makran coast in Balochistan has nominal need of gas. The pipe from Gwadar would move 400 miles east to Nawabshah where it would link into the main north south supply line for Sindh, Punjab and Khyber Pak. Why not just expand the terminal in Karachi and shift the gas along the main population centred on the Indus north south axis?

The only explaination I can think of is that this LNG pipe is clever way to prepare for gas imports from Iran in few years time. By connecting Gwadar to Nawabshah along 400 miles line you are only 50 miles from Iranian gas pipeline on the border. Therefore when the time is right this offers Pakistan the flexibility to just connect with Iranian gas via 50 mile connection from Gwadar to west. Please refer to map. In the meantime LNG supply will keep the pipe serviced.

This would be long term solution to Pakistan's chronic energy deficit as Iran has huge gas reserves presently mostly untapped.

Why don't pakistanis explore LNG in their own soil. It is not rocket science that if Iran has Gas and Oil, there should reserves in Pakistan as well. Borders are political, but mother earth does not have it.

Honourable Sir,

You do not explore "LNG". LNG is not anything that comes out of the ground. What comes out is "Natural Gas". This has to be converted into liquid form by cooling it to minus 162 Deg C. LNG must be converted back into gas before it can be used as fuel.

I thought I had explained it in my post #23 of yesterday on page 2 of this thread.. Would greatly appreciate if you could could read it.

FYI Pakistan has 31 tcf gas reserves but the demand is so much that these reserves are being depleted and despite serious exploration efforts only small reservoirs have been found. Pakistan could run out of gas completely in next 10 to 15 years, therefore alternate sources such as natural gas import Iran & Turkmenistan via pipeline and in liquid form as LNG from Qatar & various other sources are being considered.
