Chinese leadership selection is a continuing process. Basically, the candidates are evaluated before the previous president even went to the office. However, it will not be decided until the first term of the current leader is finished. Xi Jinping went into office in 2012, so we will know the final result in 2017.

The winning candidate will then held the following office: President of Central Party School of the Communist Party of China and later vice chairman of the central military commission.

assuming they will be the next president and premier:

Hu Chunhua is pretty conservative (in the Chinese sense, which is different than the American sense). He was the former secretary of Inner Mongolia and now is the secretary of Guangzhou, speaks fluent Tibetan, and is strong on anti-corruption, security and morality. I think he's pretty good.

Sun Zhengcai is neutral technocrat who has a doctorate in agricultural sciences.
