China's Defense Budget US$ 106.4 Billion in 2012

China said Sunday it plans to raise its defense budget by 11.2 percent to 670 billion yuan
(106.4 billion U.S. dollars) in 2012.

The year's draft defense budget is 67.6 billion yuan (10.7 billion U.S. dollars) more than that of 2011, said Li Zhaoxing, spokesman for the annual session of China's national legislature.

"The Chinese government follows the principle of coordinating defense development with economic development. It sets the country's defense spending according to the requirement of national defense and the level of economic development," Li said.

This number only accounts for about 1.5% of her GDP. That means China is reiterating her position of 'peaceful rise'.

Man 106 billion is only to show on paper, even we have got 36 $billion but in reality we spend more than 50 $ billions...

Chinese budget does not include R&D cost for dual-use technologies. Even then, an extra 40% more would still mean we are spending less than 2% of our GDP.

the military is getting nothing while we have no problem sending trillions to prop up the american regime.

time for a clean up of the corruption in the CPC.
this is Qing dynasty all over again, lack of spending on military will bring disaster to china.

why is the military getting such a ridiculously low amount?

中 國 今 年 的 國 防 開 支 , 將 會 增 加 11.2% , 達 到 6702 億 元 人 民 幣 。
What a Hindu rate of growth.
11.2% is more than our GDP growth rate, so it sends a message that national defense is "urgent" if not "super urgent" (15% growth or more, my preferred) and not merely "normal importance" (~7% growth).

1.28%!

No wonder generals are complaining at the Congress.
it is not enough!

it should be 2% at least for GDP
It's 1.4% on paper but in reality probably more like 2%. I'd prefer 2.5% to 3% but 2% is not a disaster either.

Yeah india is spending like crazy. The real number is undoubtedly 2x to 3x the official budget.

Are you kidding? It was much worse under Hu Jintao. Remember that year Bush Jr leaned heavily on Hu Jintao and PLA got only 7% raise? Remember when Bush Jr leaned heavily on Hu Jintao and China let india get nuclear fuel from NSG? I'll bet 100 years from now historians will look at Hu Jintao's nuclear fuel fiasco as a huge betrayal of Chinese interests at a critical point when China could have just grown some balls and used its NSG veto.

nope,it's would be far less than our GDP growth rate.
because it already include inflation.
Government officials eat and waste more than 1 trillion per year legally, and now they are cutting our military budget (% of gdp).
If this situation continued, cpc would fall quite soon just like other old china dynasty.

China is developing by Leaps and Bounds............its an example for everyone else......:)

Lets see how much India's defense budget this year

will a failed economy, a rocket high inflation, india is not going to match such kind of growth.

let's just be honest: how many indians work hard and deliver results? not many. they dream, they talk, they plan, they make proposal, they argue, they discuss, they debate, but they just don't willing to work on it and complete it.
