The problem is Pakistani leadership lacks ability to come up with innovative and ambitious ideas that hrake the mould Pakistan is stuck with - a country known for being terror central and chaotic Islamic fundos. Add to this a population which still has not recovered from the colonial complex which exhibits itself as being extremely insecure about everything and seeing a threat at every turn. The key word here is community, meaning it will include many supporting facilities e.g. hotels, shopping malls, hospitals etc. A golf course doesn’t need to cost $200+ million to build. It will be a great place to visit for domestic and international holiday makers.
I would hand over 5 mile strip of pristine coat adjacent to Gawadar (say about 10 miles west of the city) on a 50 year lease to China with condition that it is developed as holiday resort. The climate in this part of Pakistan is more Mediteranean then South Asian. Stunning beaches with pure blue Arabian Sea would make for a stunning resort. Apartments and upmarket holiday houses would be snatched by many rich ex-pat Pakistanis as well as rich Pakistanis. Most of this money is going to real estate in Dubai at the moment. With Chinese running the resort, Chinese providing security it would attract international market. It would be win win for all. It would give Chinese tourists a place to chill and relax, place for ex-pats to invest, international tourists to visit and any vistor to Pakistan would have a option to add this resort on their list. It would give the country a positive image etc etc.
But alas ....
