China's Beautiful Sansha in South China Sea

Flight-tests check routes to Nansha airfields
China Daily, July 13, 2016

China said on Tuesday it has successfully flight-tested routes to two new airfields on the Nansha Islands in the South China Sea.

A Cessna CE-680 corporate jet from the Civil Aviation Administration's Flight Inspection Center conducted the flights to airfields on Meiji Reef and Zhubi Reef, the administration announced on its website.

"Data acquired from the flights show that the two new airfields are able to guarantee safe flights for commercial airliners," the administration notice said.

"This will facilitate the transport of personnel, emergency rescue and medical aid on the Nansha Islands, and will provide new alternate airports to flights over the South China Sea."

So far, Beijing has announced building three airfields on the Nansha Islands, as well as one on Yongxing of the Xisha Islands.

Tuesday's flights came a half-year after successful test flights of two commercial airliners landing on Jan 6 at a new airfield on Yongshu Reef in the Nansha Islands.

On April 17, a Navy patrol aircraft landed on Yongshu Reef to transport three seriously ill workers to Sanya, Hainan, for treatment.

Yin Zhuo, director of the Navy's Expert Consultation Committee of the People's Liberation Army, said the Nansha Islands airfields will be useful in helping China conduct rescues in the South China Sea.

"China will berth large rescue ships and have rescue planes on the Nansha Islands. When there is a maritime disaster, rescue forces will quickly be on hand."

Huang Renwei, vice-president of the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences, said in a dialogue between Chinese and US think tanks on the South China Sea issue in Washington on July 6 that the sea has to be fully covered by radar to ensure the safety of navigation by air or sea.

The Chinese airports will serve as safe havens for international planes when storms approach, he said.

"China's efforts to provide public infrastructure that protects safety in the South China Sea cannot be matched by any other country," Huang said.

Those track marks of J11D,J10 or J20 means the opening of this runway for military aircraft is far before this date. China is truly a doer.

China successfully tests two new airfields on the Nansha Islands
Two Chinese civil planes successfully landed at Meiji Reef and Zhubi Reef on Wednesday, meaning that China now has three functioning airports on the Nansha Islands. The airspace over the South China Sea is some of the world’s busiest. With the new infrastructure, the country will be able to offer better services in areas such as meteorology information, emergency landing, emergency rescue, oceanographic surveillance and environmental protection. Meanwhile, Yongshu Reef Hospital was officially put into use in late June and the main construction of a lighthouse at Meiji Reef will be completed soon.

How beautiful this airport is:smitten::smitten: Hospitals ,hotels, schools..all the modern facilities now are being built up fast. Many new island cities will spring all over the South China Sea. Chinese world class engineering can make all fantasies reality.

SCS ADIZ is not necessary for the time being, but some actions will be carried out soon.
some of them are in Financial and Economic fields,

China's Top Telecoms Launch 4G Service in Nansha Islands

In a bid to improve communication services to the locals of Nansha, China's top telecom carriers have launched 4G services to the islands located in the South China Sea, according to an article by China Daily.

The expansion is also regarded as a way to secure China's legal claim on the disputed territory.

The move comes after China dismissed the arbitral ruling of The Hague that China does not have a "historic title" over the South China Sea.

China Telecommunications Corp, the third largest telecom carrier in terms of subscribers, has extended its 4G signal to the island's seven reefs to give access among its residents to faster Internet speed.

This speedier connection will enable islanders to make video calls and even conduct and participate in China's growing e-commerce market.

For the past four years, the telecom has already poured in over 70 million yuan to construct infrastructure in the South China Sea.The State-owned firm revealed that it spent nine months to set up eight base stations surrounding the islands.

Meanwhile, China Mobile Communications Corp, China Telecom's larger competitor, also offered similar services.

After its successful 4G launch in nearby Xisha Islands, it has expanded its signal to cover Nansha's Zhubi and Yongshu reefs.

Xiang Ligang, CEO of the industry portal cctime.com and a veteran in the telecom indsutry, shared: "The achievement highlights China's determination to serve local people and passing ships. It also mirrors homegrown telecom companies' cutting-edge technology."

Though nestled in strategic shipping lanes, Nansha Islands are located far away from land areas, making it difficult, costly and time-consuming for telecoms to build infrastructures in the region.

According to Su Xun, an employee at China Mobile who is in charge of telecom equipment maintenance, it takes an average of 60 hours to get to the islands coming from the Hainan Province.

Apart from the travel time concern, telecoms also shared that their equipment are very much vulnerable to seawater corrosion. They also find it hard to secure stable supply of electricity to power its 4G stations and transmit signals.

Nonetheless, Su remarked that all possible problems that may arise have been taken care off, adding that "[their] efforts finally paid off."
