China is testing a prototype convenience store, capsule gym, and cafe without any employees.

The facilities are automated and self-serve.

"Unmanned convenience stores in China
Published on Jul 26, 2017

High-tech automated convenience stores have entered Beijing and Shanghai. One of them, BingoBox, opened in Shanghai in early July this year. Customers scan QR codes to enter the store and select products, and then pay using their mobile WeChat wallets. Last week, unmanned convenience stores opened in many neighborhoods in Beijing. These stores use facial recognition to let customers enter after they upload a photo to register. They also let customers pay via WeChat. In addition, these stores have a microwave, a shared cell phone charger, a freezer, and a soy milk machine."

A convenient store, ok, undstandable. But a gym and a café without people? WTF? Aren't these places meant to be places to meet people and communicate?

In fact, the reason why I love to go to market places is that I like to have a small talk with them and after a period, we became familiar and they the vendors would give me an extra slice of cold cut or reserve for me something special for the weekend menu.

don't you go to the gym to work out? I don't hit up random people at the gym... just focus on working out... which is the point of going to the gym.

Normally you're not supposed to do chat to people in the gym.

Especially if you are strength training. People usually have very limited time in their day in the gym and you have to make the most of it.

Once you start talking, your time will be up just like that and you won't have done much of anything strength wise.
