China's 5G user base surpasses 1 billion

The power of 5G is in industry and on the factory floor.

China Leads the Way With Private 5G Networks at Industrial Facilities

Among the projects: a coal mine where 5G allows remote inspections of mines and the automation of mining activity

China is racing ahead in building the infrastructure of 5G networks, but it is inside factories, coal mines, shipyards and warehouses where the technology is really taking off.

The country is widely seen as being out front in the deployment of localized, high-powered 5G networks in sprawling industrial sites, which aim to use the technology to help automate labor-intensive or dangerous industrial processes, and hopefully boost productivity.

These sites include 5G coal mines with remote-operated drilling machinery, so-called smart factories that automate production and quality control, and seaports with internet-connected cameras that process and tally freight containers.
These 5G private networks are different from the consumer-oriented networks that blanket towns and cities, in that they are dedicated to specific enterprise sites with tailor-made hardware and software. Isolated from public networks, they can be adjusted to specific requirements and handle more complex jobs and processes.

Many such projects are under construction in the U.S., Europe and other parts of the world. But analysts say the construction and deployment of private networks is further along in China, where the government has set aggressive targets for building high-tech work sites powered by next-generation networks.
“China is quite ambitious in terms of developing their 5G—basically putting 5G as a national priority and targeting the digital transformation and connectivity of the economy,” says Sihan Bo Chen, head of Greater China for the telecom industry group GSMA.

But I guess a lot of those users are not people but companies, IoT and things like that.

Really how many percentage of Chinese has 5G devices?
China has a high proportion of population using 5G. At least there are no 4G mobile phone users among my relatives, friends and colleagues.

I billion companies? are you for real?

A tech company can have hundreds 5G lines ("users") for every IoT device.

In rural China too?

You drunk?
What a low level of the forum.

A single small company using IoT 5G connected devices can have hundreds of "5G users".

Tibet, the roof of the world

The most subversive zone, the most needed to be well digitalized to be spied every single second, every single inch.

I guess in Xinjiang 5G must be worderful too  .

But maybe small rural zones of peaceful minorities are a little more forgotten.

If you decided that China is bad, you don't need facts and evidence, now it's becoming meaningless to discuss with you.

And what does it matter if China is unable to create innovative new apps, tech giants and platforms? You’re just going to jerkoff to data speeds?

They are going to need it to continually quickly transfer the millimeter resolution pre-computed high-res LIDAR maps for Full Self-Driving vehicles expected to be driving on the roads. I assume the cars are going to be grabbing everything within a few blocks of the car's current position as it is driving through areas so the onboard dynamic LIDAR can match itself. Multiply that by thousands of cars and there is going to be a lot of data traffic. Even worse in places where people drive fast.

I also will assume the cars will have some "smarts" and determine the maps are stale and can do an upload to update them.

If it works this will certainly ease the adoption of self-driving cars in China..but maybe not as easy in the rest of the world without the substantial infrastructure required for every road.

This is why Tesla is not going the LIDAR route. Let the car use computer vision to figure out things and not much infrastructure required.

5G in industry will make China’s productivity skyrocket.

While US can't make their own 5G system it pulls out all stops to block China's globally, US now is becoming a anti science, anti technology country.

It only stopped 5G from being deployed in the US and its allies. It could not stop its induction and spread in China.

This means the revolutionary effect of 5G in industry will happen only in China and it will set the table for 6G.

The US needs to ban this, that and the other thing because China's technology level is not only catching up but is expanding its reach into areas where it now leads.

China's 5G user base surpasses 1 billion

China's 5G user base has surpassed 1 billion for the first time, according to the latest business figures released by China Mobile, China Telecom and China Unicom.

By September, China Mobile had 557 million 5G users, followed by China Telecom's 251 million and China Unicom's 201 million, which took the country's total 5G user base to 1.01 billion.
By August, China's 5G user base was 977 million.

Since its launch in 2019, China has taken the lead in the 5G user base, 5G patents, and base station coverage. About 80 percent of smartphones sold in the Chinese market are 5G models.
According to researcher Counterpoint, 5G phone sales surpassed the sales of 4G models for the first time in August in the global market.

China is accelerating the construction of 5G base stations this year, supporting 5G applications in the industrial, educational, and other sectors, and launching 5G services geared toward the elderly in order to advance 5G development and the digital economy, said China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

5G is now an "artery" feeding the development of the information society and digital infrastructure construction, which is boosting telecom revenue and the digital economy.

In the first nine months, China Mobile's net profit reached 98.5 billion yuan (US$13.9 billion), up13 percent year on year. Its 5G users accounted for more than half of China's total. Meanwhile, China Telecom's net profit in the first three quarters reached 24.5 billion yuan, 5.2 percent year on year, the carriers said on Friday.

5G and related mobile services will also be adapted to make them suitable for the aged, disabled, and price-sensitive groups. These include "one-click" services like calling a taxi or reporting an emergency, which help close the digital divide.

Meanwhile, Chinese firms have been prepared for the upcoming 6G technologies. About half global 6G patent applications are coming from China, said research firm Market Research Future.

Also since September, a new and fourth mobile carrier Broadnet started its services with new 5G numbers beginning with 192. It's expected to bring more 5G users in future.

China Broadnet, mainly a cable TV and radio network operator, was also given a national 5G license. In Shanghai, the carrier will offer services by the Oriental Cable Network Co or OCN, the city's biggest cable TV service provider.

This is just phenomenal growth! What Chipsets are the Chinese 5G systems using since the ban on AMD / Intel / US chipsets?

While US can't make their own 5G system it pulls out all stops to block China's globally, US now is becoming a anti science, anti technology country.

I know this for a fact. The US has developed 5G a few years ago and have now started to rollout. Their 4G speeds were in excess of many nation's 5G requirements. In fact, they've been working on 6G systems for the past two years.
