Sky is limit for first provincial cloud computing center in Shandong - People's Daily Online August 10, 2010

The Shandong Cloud Computing Center was recently established. Cloud computing refers to Internet-based computing using shared resources, software and information connected through a network that functions much like an electricity grid.

Different from the newly-established cloud infrastructures in Beijing and Hangzhou, this is based on intensively utilizing the existing information resources including software parks, domestic and foreign manufacturers, scientific research institutions and enterprises and it is the first provincial cloud computing center in China, achieving the integration of resources across various regions.

The Shandong Economy and Information Technology Institute, jointly established by the Shandong Committee of Economy and Information Technology and the Shandong Academy of Sciences, was unveiled on the same day. The Shandong Cloud Computing Center is an important part of their cooperation.

Compared with traditional models, cloud computing has prominent advantages in intensively using resources, protecting intellectual property rights and improving innovation ability.

Cloud computing has a thin client solution that can save enterprises and public institutions 60 percent of electric energy. The large-scale centralized cloud computing center can raise the utilization rate of CPUs and memory to 90 percent, greatly reducing the investment while significantly increasing efficiency.
