‘China won’t let India gain entry into NSG’

It is a matter between China and India !

I do not think China has any issues in objecting India's membership into NSG.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistanis appear to be convinced that India will not make it to the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG), despite having the support of the United States, and are relying on China to this end.

Pakistan’s former permanent representative at the United Nations in Geneva and envoy at the Conference on Disarmament said on Wednesday that the “chances of India gaining entry into NSG are virtually nil”.

Ambassador Zamir Akram was speaking at a conference on the International Nuclear Order, organised by the Strategic Vision Institute and Konrad Adenauer Stiftung.

This is the second time in a month that a senior official involved in the country’s nuclear affairs has dismissed India’s chances. At a conference late last month adviser to the National Command Authority, retired Lt Gen Khalid Kidwai, had said: “We also have friends in NSG who would not let it happen.”

Mr Akram opined that China would not allow India to enter the coveted group because this would affect its nuclear cooperation with Pakistan. He said China is committed to ensuring that both India and Pakistan gain membership at the same time.

Other than China, he said there are some countries that are upset by the “double standards” being shown in India’s case, and are calling for an approach based on criteria.

The situation is reminiscent of 2008, when India received a country-specific safeguards agreement at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), which paved the way for exemptions from the NSG for nuclear trade with India, despite the fact that it is not a signatory of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.

On that occasion, both China and Pakistan initially indicated their opposition to an India-specific agreement with the IAEA, but when Islamabad later succumbed to US pressure, Beijing too withdrew its objection.

Discussing the global nuclear order, Mr Akram said it had been destabilised by a number of factors, including the world powers’ double standards and discriminatory exemptions granted to India.

For a balanced nuclear order, Mr Akram suggested the resolution of political disputes, a reduction in the reliance on nuclear weapons for deterrence, dialogue between nuclear weapon states on disarmament or controlling or containing nuclear arsenals, ending discriminatory policies followed by the US and other Western countries, and commitment to not building any more destabilising weapons.

Former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, Gen Ehsanul Haq, while inaugurating the conference asked Pakistani diplomats to demonstrate self-confidence “based on the legitimacy of our case and the credibility of our capabilities”.

Gen Ehsan also criticised the world nuclear order for being “highly discriminatory and obstructive”.

He said Pakistan’s nuclear programme would continue “no matter how adverse the environment, to provide us the credible deterrence against the existential threats we confront”.

SVI president Dr Zafar Iqbal Cheema, too, expressed disapproval of the nuclear order. He said the world powers were using the NPT and the Non-Proliferation Regime (NPR) for their political, strategic and foreign policy objectives, thereby diminishing their credibility.

He said Pakistan was a victim of the West’s discriminatory attitude. He said the Indo-US nuclear deal provides India with fissile material for 50 additional warheads every year by sparing local resources.

He said the proposed brackets for mainstreaming Pakistan in the nuclear order were tantamount to dismantling its deterrence capability.

At the conclusion of the seminar, the think tank recommended that the government continue challenging the discrimination faced by Pakistan and seek an equitable and inclusive regime in the transforming global nuclear order.

SVI also called for maintaining credible deterrence capability against India, and advised against compromising security for mainstreaming in the nuclear order.

But the thread is about Pakistan claiming that China will not allow India to enter the NSG, despite there being no evidence that China has ever said that.

First of all Pakistan is not "claiming" anything, he is a former ambassador sharing his personal opinions, next time actually read the article before you start with your no offense stupid and idiotic rants.

Secondly how about an Indian source stating that China will only consider "accepting" India's place in the NSG if and only if Pakistan is also given a place, is this source satisfactory enough for you?

The thread is about Pakistan claiming a lot of things some of which are clearly based on facts and figures if one isn't to believe those then i don't even understand why there is a discussion at first place. The OP clearly mentions Pakistan's stance over the discriminatory policies of the US and it's minion states, but somehow some people are only fixated on China :cheesy:. May be a re-read will help grasp the OP better? But keeping an open mind is the key.

Now that is something which only the Chinese can answer. Chinese are not like the US, they don't follow the confrontation path unless really required. I can't speak on Chinese behalf and this is something which time will reveal.

China should block India's entry into all elite clubs since India wants to emerge as a competitor to China. I doubt if China's stance here has anything to do with Pakistan. India's quest for power will collide with Chinese interests in the region, so it's better if China acts now.

In their funny deluded dream want to be competitor of us,

We feel sad. The people of India's poverty line is 35 rupees a day. And the government of India is not any improvement measures. Let the Indian people struggling in poverty line. But always interested in what is beyond the ability of India's... The sorrow.

Why not look at what the World Bank has to say:

Pakistani diplomats have been complete and utter failures for at least three decades now. This kind of 'pep' talk is actually proof that they themselves are now accepting their uselessness and trying to rally themselves. Too bad, it is completely futile as well because the the crop of diplomats that have come up during this period lack skills even worse than their seniors.

The other interesting thing is to see a Chinese guy expressing sorrow over Indian democracy. Poor poor man!

So when has China ever stated what the title of this thread claims?

Apparently they have conveyed this message to Pakistan behind closed doors. Now just because China hasn't done this publicly, it doesn't mean it's not true. So let's wait and see how things roll.

So you accept that what is being claimed here is totally uncorroborated. That would be correct.

What do you think the following quote means?

"However, a decision on the inclusion of non-NPT states shall be made based on consensus of all NSG members after thorough discussions in accordance with relevant rules. China's position applies to all non-NPT states instead of targeting any specific country,"

Behind closed doors?? Really?

China on Thursday said it will not back India's bid alone to join the Nuclear Suppliers Group as "other states" are also aspiring to join the elite 48-member club and asserted that any decision on the inclusion of new members will be based on "consensus".

"Besides India, there are other non-NPT states who have expressed similar aspirations," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei told PTI, clubbing India along with Pakistan and other states who have not signed the Nuclear Non- proliferation Treaty (NPT).

Oh yeah if not for the spy, there would have been hugs and kisses!
NSG or No NSG we get all the access so why worry about it. Uranium trade is already taking place, nuclear reactors will be sold. pakistan is the sole loser as they have to trade only with china that too behind the doors.

hmm ur from karnataka:tup:. let them look at tamil nadu where they feed state subsidized rice to cows and get all the convenient stuff like fans, grinders for free.

off topic but funny
Why manifestos mean so much in Tamil Nadu

It seems this thread also moved out from the actual point of discussion:undecided:.

"WHAT WILL CHINA GET BY BLOCKING INDIA FROM ENTERING INTO NSG"

only thing I am seeing is PAKISTAN nothing else.

.
I will not say like the report that there is nil chances of getting in NSG. But yes China don't support India that much in international level so. I can say there are chances of the rejections from there side.

They are jealous like countries. PAK and CHINA. don't want to see Indian Growth. As you see chinies GTP got down to 5 only now. which making them more jealous of us. But its bad though. I always prefer. We would be the supper power of world. If we would walk together, helping each other.

.
India has proven to have worst nuclear security than even Pakistan..what would it do in NSG..create a world wide proliferation risk!
