I find it hard to believe that SCANIA India is supplying automotive components to Chinese bus plants.

China had two of the six largest producers of buses in unit terms -- Zhengzhou Yutong Bus (China), Daimler (Germany), Xiamen King Long Motor (China), Volkswagen (Germany), Marcopolo (Brazil), and Toyota (Japan) -- combined to account for two-fifths of all sales worldwide in 2013. These six bus manufacturers had 40% of the world market then.

Today Daimler is out and the top two bus manufacturers are Chinese, Yutong and KingLong. Your Mumbai city/commuter buses are Chinese too.....I don't know what brand.

Deshprem does not sell buses, they are sold on reliability and quality factors.

And of course Indian Tata/AL/Mahindra buses cannot compete with Chinese buses in Luxury segment. This has been proven many times over in past years in this very forum.

Chinese don't even need a SCANIA bus plant to make top-grade luxury coaches (unlike India). They make fine buses of equal quality on their own.

I certainly find it extremely hilarious that u did not have any proof of argument when you said that the Scania Manufacturing Plant in India was run on Chinese Supplies. Scania started its Manufacturing here in India before it went to China and if India could have made it before it went operational in China, it certainly goes to prove that it did not need Chinese supplies and not now as well however, there is a possibility that the Chinese may or may not use the existing supply chain routed through India.

Indian Luxury bus market is pretty much non existent and most of the commercial traffic is in the hands of Indian Bus makers. But hey we got few for other markets.

Good news for India - and maybe I missed it, but this still does not say this Scania plant in Karnataka will supply Chinese factories. Absent any such proof, I rest my case.

The low end of the Bangladesh market has been 'invaded' with low-grade Indian commercial vehicles, with horrific effects. Pollution is rife, as is expected with their low-grade engines and components. MTBF for engines can be counted in the low hundreds of hours. Every roadside dhaba mechanic has proof. Just ask.

Now that both Volvo and Scania are investing in India, that is bad news for us in the rest of Asia. This means that the stellar quality once expected of these brands will no longer be assured because these brands made in the land of low-grade steel and questionable QC will spell doom for unsuspecting Asian customers.

Please don't see my comments as anti-Indian because I distrust Indian commercial vehicle brands. I have nothing against Indians themselves.

Indian bus operators and logistics companies themselves will often buy foreign products if they have a choice. They would have bought more, but their govt. certainly does not make it easy for them knowing how their local industry 'formulates' their import and export policy and have succeeded in keeping it as the world's largest captive closed-market for decades and decades. The primary reason is to keep feeding India low-grade products resulting from low-grade raw materials and inefficient processes which, when given a choice, no one would buy.

This is one of the main reasons Indian products fail horribly when faced with International competition.

The middle end of the Bus market - whether in Asia or worldwide, is firmly in Chinese manufacturers' hands and the top-end is soon to follow. The sooner Asian customers realize this - the better.

Look how Indian travel-blogs are gushing about a Chinese BYD e-bus introduced in Bangalore (first e-bus in India). If Indian metro bus operators themselves are buying Chinese equipment, why should we buy Indian equipment?

The new “electric bus” recently acquired by the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) seen at Majestic bus station, Bangalore. The bus is manufactured by a Chinese company named BYD Auto Company Ltd. (Build Your Dreams) and costs a whopping Rs.2.7 Crore in India. There is only one electric bus as of now and runs on a trial basis on route 335E (Majestic – Corporation – Richmond – Brigade – Domlur – HAL – Marathahalli – Kundanahalli – KTPO – ITPL – Kadugodi). Based on feedback and performance, more buses will be acquired and extended to more routes.

100% Green and completely free of emission, the bus runs completely on Batteries and once fully charged has a range of 250 km or for 4 round trips. The interiors of the bus reek of quality and is completely pin-drop silent! The body of the bus is made fully of fiber and plastic and this bus makes the Volvos pale in comparison. This has to be the future of public transportation in India. The bus is awesome, BMTC! Please go ahead! If only the government would waive taxes and duties on battery powered vehicles…

I am not sure why Dhaka is not going after underground metro rail system to ease the traffic on road. Pushing more buses is hardly going to help.

Typical Bilal-ish non sense. Indian manufacturers have taken BD market by the storm (a good 75% of it, that is) and have launched excellent products they sell elsewhere. It's not our fault that malnourished BD economy can't afford it. Anyway, BD has a high end CV market ? :lol:

By the way, talking about pollution, do Bangladesh have any sort of emission standards? Indian manufacturers can comply with Euro 6 with their present Engine designs.

Too bad, they have started exporting Indian made Volvo coaches to France. But even European standards are too low standard for a country which is 3 decades ahead of everyone in smart manufacturing. :lol:

Buses we started exporting two years ago to South Africa. The good news is that last year we started exporting to France in Western Europe.

There are three projects,
  1. Metro rail (elevated) which is extensive
  2. BRT project (dedicated lane) with interchanges to/from metro rail lines
  3. City bus replacement (the Chinese electric buses are part of this and will not be part of BRT)
Cut and cover underground rail is impractical in Dhaka context because of high water table situation, unlike places in Kolkata.

There are still reports that some of the planned Metro rail lines may utilize underground corridors.

It is really not wise to write something without even attaching a shred of proof. You need to understand that Indian automotive industry is probably 5th in the world. There are various levels of quality that one can get from india especially in tier-2 and 3 companies manufacturing spare parts. It is outrageous to say that all of automobiles manufactured in india is rubbish.
You took the example of steel--again india happens to be 2nd largest producer of steel in 2016 and there are a wide spectrum of producers with varying qualities,hence you get what you pay for. If your country imports low cost steel from india then dont expect it to beat the best in the world.
And lastly kindly do pay a visit to pune and chennai-you'd get a feel of the R&D going on india in the field of automotive engineering.

Let me tell you something straight,In India,the lower and middle segment is dominated by Indian buses only. No one in india uses "chinese buses". Secondly we do not call these as "indian metro buses"--metro is a word reserved for something else in india. These buses is what I call AC buses thats all. And in most cities in india,Volvo,TATA and Ashok leyland dominate this segment. Btw,tell me honestly if you have ever travelled by a TATA AC bus(what you call as "metro buses" in your country).I expect an "honest" answer.
Bangalore is perhaps the only city to have bought the chinese e-buses-- this doesnt mean that India hasnt produced any e-buses. It merely meant they(BMTC--Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corp) felt that chinese one is cheaper than Indian. In fact Ashok Leyland has developed their own e-bus using Aerospace Grade cells designed and developed by ISRO for their space missions.
and lastly it will be great if we do justice to the topic of this thread. In case you make any statement-- do NOT forget to attach very credible and neutral proofs for the same.

Dhaka's elevated metro will take another decade to become operational. As far as buses go, the city still doesn't have a proper time-table-running bus service that its citizens can rely on.

Cant we export our 2nd hand scrap cars directly to bangladesh , it would save them sone pennies.

Remember the loco engines bought by pakistan . Now they have gone in for american loco engines . Wonder why ?

Scrap cars should be scrapped... Don't dump into other countries. Remember India is the world's biggest dump for E-waste. Exactly the reason why india does not allow Apple to sell refurbished phones.

Even china has varying degrees of quality based on cost. Low cost will give you shit...
