Indians had not produce any tangible result beside boasting about this project while Japan itself is joining China to deliver their merchandise to EU via China's OBOR initiative and not to mention CPEC which will be operational soon. The goal of BRI is to connecting China to other continents through railway and sea route. And annually, boosting trade between China and those continents.

Freight train is a good option in exporting. It's faster than sea freight and cheaper than air freight. If Japan want to export their goods to Europe (and vice versa) by freight train, they should join China's BRI.

Could Japan transport their goods to Europe (and vice versa) by train via India or SE Asia? Maybe, but it's too far from Japan's islands.
