China, Vietnam pledge to strengthen military ties

General Guo Boxiong, vice-chairman of China's Central Military Commission, met here with Vietnamese Defense Minister Phung Quang Thanh Wednesday, and the two sides agreed to enhance military cooperation.

Guo said China treasures the traditional friendship with Vietnam, attaches great importance to advance comprehensive strategic and cooperative partnership between the two countries.

Military ties are an important part of the China-Vietnam relations. The Chinese military is ready to join hands with the Vietnamese military to strengthen strategic communication, upgrade the level of practical cooperation and further promote the development of military ties between the two countries, he said.

For his part, Thanh welcomed Guo's visit, saying that Vietnamese people always bear in mind the Chinese people's generous help in the Vietnamese people's struggle for independence and the national construction over the past years.

Thanh said the Vietnam-China bilateral relations have new opportunities to grow further in a new historical period. He expressed the hope that two sides will carry on their traditional friendship and contribute to promoting pragmatic cooperation in extensive areas and enhancing strategic mutual trust.

During the talks, both sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues of common concern. Before the meeting, Guo placed a wreath at the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum.

Something is up..... this is more like a visit to express "frank views" (make threats) than genuine breakthrough in ties. Vietnam is up to something and China figured it out.
