China Shipbuilding & Offshore International Co Ltd (CSOC) is preparing for a joint-venture with Khulna Shipyard authorities (an enterprise of the Bangladesh Navy) at Barguna. Representatives of the firm made a formal presentation offer to the Khulna Shipyard authorities earlier today.
The KSY's second shipyard in Taltali, Barguna of Barishal division has an area size of 162 acres. It will be utilized to build Bangladesh's largest naval shipyard in partnership with Chinese state owned enterprise. The KSY-II site is opposite BNS Sher-e-Bangla, which is being set up at Lalua of Kalapara upazilla at a cost of BDT 1,081.50 crore. The naval base is to equipped with a naval air station and submarine facilities besides suface fleet jetties. It is also to be the largest naval base of Bangladesh with completion deadline in 2021.
The new shipyard designed to be equipped with it's own design house, accommodation facilities, self-contained power plant, various types of workshops, sub-factories, 5 conventional slide way launchers and longitudinal steel roller slideway launcher, floodable basins, fabrication halls, assemble facilities, various heavy cranes, a helipad and administration buildings. The yard has direct access to the Bay of Bengal ensuring it can build larger warships and Panama standard of up to 120000 DWT.
Khulna Shipyard has a successful record of cooperation with CSOC, having already constructed 7 warships using CSOC design and material package including anti-submarine warfare light corvettes. Another 5 Padma class patrol craft are under construction with deal signing done on 29 May, 2019. The Dockyard & Engineering Works, Narayanganj is also cooperation with the same Chinese shipbuilder for building patrol craft for Bangladesh Coast Guard.
