Both Pakistan and China have very strong ties, not just militarily, but also politically. Recently, Pakistani Minister for Science and Technology, Mir Changez Khan Jamali has informed that Pakistan is in talks with Chinese companies to import the third-generation nuclear technology. Pakistan hopes to get the technology within a year or two according to China Daily, a state-run newspaper. Already China has assisted Pakistan in setting up two nuclear reactors at Pakistan’s Chashma nuclear power plant. But they use second-generation nuclear technology.

The time is now to upgrade the n-technology. China is now financing a third 200-megawatt (mW) which is under construction at the nuclear site. According to the World Nuclear Association, China has plans to further aid Pakistan with more nuclear reactors. China is developing its own domestic third-generation nuclear reactor, the CAP 1400, which is the first of its kind for the Chinese in Rongcheng, Shandong province.

It is based on Westinghouse Electric Co’s AP1000 pressurised water reactor. It is expected to raise the generation capacity from 1,154 mW to 1,400 mW. The construction work on this will begin in 2013. The construction has been delayed due to Fukushima nuclear disaster in Japan earlier this year for safety purposes.

Though Pakistan has nuclear weapons for nuclear deterrence, it is still to utilize nuclear technology for civilian purposes. Pakistan has asked U.S. to have a civil nuclear deal, but so far, the U.S. has not responded positively. But China has helped Pakistan with its civil nuclear program generously.

I'm worried that the Taliban or Al-qaeda will infiltrate and leave with the fuel rods, like how they raided the Pakistani military base recently. (no offence)

We appreciate Chinese efforts to bring Pakistan into independent energy generation sector; here need to mention that China is investing in various type of energy generation projects in Pakistan.

first of all... they have to make nukes using the material... avoid getting caught, killed etc.

if they try to steal 'hot' nukes, then it still is highly unlikely that they'd be able to do anything, it's not like the nukes have a big red button on them: reading 'do not press'.

Go figure.

How are the Taliban going to enrich reactor grade fissile material into weapons grade?

Exactly!! How can a bunch of maniac cave men who can't even spell their own names know how to operate reactors with all of the math that is required in it?

I think Pakistan and China should also cooperate on Solar and Wind powered energy as well, nuclear energy isn't really that safe, especially considering what happened in Japan.

Is it a good idea to send someone named Gengis Khan to China?
