China won the FIDE men's world team chess championship for the first time in Tsaghksdzor, Armenia, after beating India 3-1 in the last round on Tuesday.

The Chinese team of Bu Xiangzhi, Ding Liren, Yu Yangyi, Wei Yi and Wang Chen, finished with 15 points from nine rounds in the round-robin tournament which featured the world's best 10 teams.

Ukraine took the silver with 12 points, and hosts Armenia had bronze with 11 points.

After Ukraine obatined only four ties early in the last round, China were already assured of the title regardless of their results against India.

"It's really a historical achievement for Chinese men's chess," said Ye Jiangchuan, the head coach of Chinese chess team.

China also captured its first men's Chess Olympiad cup last year. It finished the runner-ups at the FIDE world championship in 2005, 2011 and 2013.

The world team chess championship, played every two years, is an international team chess event, eligible for the participation of 10 countries whose chess federations dominate their continent. In chess, the world championship and the Chess Olympiads are the premier international tournaments.

China confirms domination, wins World Team Championship 2015 | Chessdom

The national team of China continued its global domination by securing the gold medal at the FIDE World Team Chess Championship in Tsakhkadzor, having previously won the 2014 Chess Olympiad in Tromso.

Earlier, China had three silver medals from the World Team Championships in 2005, 2011 and 2013. In 2005 they were on the brink of winning the gold, before being overtaken by Russia in the dramatic last round.

The next generation of players took a leap ahead, with Bu Xiangzhi being the only member of the team both in 2005 and 2015.

The 2015 FIDE World Team Chess Championship was held from 19-28th April in Tsakhkadzor, Armenia.

Ukraine was in contention for the first place, but a couple of setbacks in the final rounds forced them to take consolation in the team silver medal.

The host country Armenia had a shaky start, but they went on to win four matches in the last five rounds to claim the bronze medal.

Ma Long celebrated his maiden World Championships title by jumping on the table!

The 53rd World Championships concluded at the Suzhou International Expo Centre tonight, with the remaining two titles, Men's Singles and Women's Doubles World titles being decided.

World number one MA Long (CHN) became the Men's World Champion for the first time, in front of the capacity crowd in Suzhou.

With this being his fourth time participation at world championships, MA played his first World Championships Men's Singles gold medal stage tonight in Suzhou. His best result at past world championships was in the semifinals, where he met the now retired WANG Hao (CHN) on all three occasions.

The 26 year old faced compatriot FANG Bo who eliminated hot favorites XU Xin (CHN) as well as two-time defending and Olympic champion ZHANG Jike (CHN) en route to the finals.

Determined to get hold of the St. Bride Vase, MA was all fired up to dominate the court in front of the home crowd. Despite all of FANG's efforts to turn the situation in his favour, MA won 4-2 (11-7, 7-11, 11-4, 11-8, 11-13, 11-4) to claim the title that has eluded the world number one all these years.

"It is like a dream come true. Having losing in the semifinals at the three world championships previously, honestly I have a lot of pressure to earn this title. At the end of the day I think these was worth it." shared the newly crowned champion.

In the other gold medal match of the night, DING Ning (CHN), who reclaimed her Women's Singles title last night in the most dramatic fashion, put up a good fight with partner LI Xiaoxia (CHN) in the Women's Doubles gold medal match.

Facing teammates LIU Shiwen and ZHU Yuling, DING/LI pulled off amazing rallies during the match to take the lead early in the match despite DING having difficulty moving around with her sprained ankle. LIU/ZHU, equally determined to take home the title, trailed closely behind in the match.

LIU/ZHU eventually prevailed 4-3 (8-11, 11-8, 3-11, 11-8, 11-13, 11-8, 11-8) to emerge victorious to claim the title. This defeat means that DING Ning has now played four Women's Doubles finals in a row and have lost them all!

LIU who lost her women's singles title against DING the night before, expressed "I was very upset after the loss last night. While I know I only have to accept it. I'd like to thank my coach, teammates and friends for their support."

The 24 year old added "Since I had doubles to play today, I knew I had to be mentally tough. I cherish this match because I've never won the championship in single's event before and I knew I had to give it my best effort tonight."

China's world number one Ma Long has set his sights on a maiden table tennis singles gold at the Rio Olympics next year after breaking through for his first world title on home courts in Suzhou.

The 26-year-old had long been overshadowed by champion compatriots Zhang Jike and Wang Hao in China's lofty pecking order, but stepped out of their shadows with a 4-2 win over Fang Bo on Sunday.

The win was just reward for hard graft, said Ma, who had been dumped from the semi-finals by the now retired Wang at his three previous world championships.

"It is like a dream come true. Having lost in the semi-finals at the three world championships previously, honestly I have a lot of pressure to earn this title," said Ma, who partnered with Zhang and Wang to win the men's team gold at the London Olympics.

"At the end of the day I think these were worth it.

"Glory is attained from hard work, step by step. I hope I can go up another level at Rio."

Ma's win helped China sweep all four of the men's and women's titles in singles and doubles. China's Xu Xin teamed up with South Korea's Yang Hae-un to win the mixed doubles.

Ma earned special praise from China's men's head coach Liu Guoliang.

"Ma's always been criticised from outside for lacking an edge. I didn't see it that way tonight," Liu, a former Olympic and world singles champion, told Chinese media after the title-decider. "He set his emotions free."

Though Ma took the prize, China could also celebrate the emergence of yet another table tennis force in Fang, who upset the reigning Olympic and world champion Zhang in the semi-finals.

Ma watched the match with interest and was impressed by the aggression of the previously unsung 23-year-old from the heartland province of Hubei.

"I could feel his momentum was really fierce," Ma said. – Reuters, May 4, 2015.

China Win Sudirman Cup For The Tenth Time
  • 18 MAY 2015
China were the heavy favourites even before Sudirman Cup began and they reigned supreme at the biennial World Mixed Team Championships once again. Cheered on by a vociferous home crowd at the Dongfeng Nissan Sports Center in Dongguan, the Chinese team cruised to a 3-0 win over first-time finalists Japan to notch up an unprecedented tenth Sudirman Cup title. Not only that, this is China’s sixth consecutive victory at the Team Championships and each of those six times they have won with an unassailable 3-0 scoreline in the final.

Team China celebrates on the podium at the Sudirman Cup ceremony

Fu Haifeng/Zhang Nan give China 1-0 lead
The final began with an enthralling contest between the World No. 8 Chinese pair of Fu Haifeng / Zhang Nan and the sixth-ranked Japanese team of Hiroyuki Endo/Kenichi Hayakawa in men’s doubles. The gripping match reached the third game where the Chinese pair emerged victorious 21-17, 20-22, 21-17 in an hour and 19 minutes.

Li Xuerui makes it 2-0
The next match was the women’s singles clash between the World No. 1 Li Xuerui and the talented 17-year-old Japanese Akane Yamaguchi. The young Japanese had stretched the experienced Chinese to the decider in each of their last two meetings. Drawing confidence from those two contests, Yamaguchi soared to a quick lead by virtue of some excellent movement and fantastic court coverage.

Li Xuerui, however arrested the momentum with some fine display at the net that caught her opponent off-guard. She eked out the tight first game 23-21. The second game was more of a one-way traffic as the Olympic champion wrapped up the match 23-21, 21-14 in 42 minutes.

Lin Dan gives China the Sudirman Cup title
It was finally left to superstar Lin Dan to do the honours. The two-time Olympic gold medallist and five-time World Champion, who was given a rousing welcome, steered his team to a 3-0 victory after beating Japan’s Takuma Ueda 21-15, 21-13.

Ueda had to take the place of Japan’s top player, World No.8 Kento Momota who was injured. Ueda fought hard but Lin Dan proved too strong as he clinched the win in 49 minutes.

China’s supremacy proved yet again
This triumph once again proves China’s stranglehold and their all-round supremacy in the world of badminton. Their first title came way back in 1995 at Lausanne and since then they have won 9 of the 10 editions. Their skill, dedication and nurturing of talent is exemplary.

China's Li Xuerui, the top seeded women's singles player, exchanged leads with her opponent Akane Yamaguchi in the first game, but ultimately handed Yamaguchi a defeat, winning 23-21, 21-14.

China has set a world record in women's 50-meter rifle 3 positions at the 2015 ISSF World Cup in Fort Benning in Georgia, U.S.A. on May 17, Sunday, as announced in the official website of the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF).

Chang Jing won with a record-breaking score of 463.3 points, the Xinhua News Agency reported.

Chang unseated Croatia's Snjezana Pejcic, the World No. 1, who landed in the second place with 461.1 points.

The report said that Chang made an excellent series, one after another, and finished with 2.2 points of advantage to lead the match.

The 28-year-old Chinese shooter shattered the world record of 463.0 points set by Pejcic in Changwon more than a month ago.

The report added that Chang has been one of the most consistent rifle shooters in the last two seasons.

"Fort Benning is my lucky place. Last year I won a gold and a silver medal here. This is one of my favorite places to compete," said the Chinese shooter.

"I didn't expect to break the final world record. I am not even sure if I have ever scored it back home."

The report said that Chang's achievement was part of China's preparation for the coming Olympic Games.

"The goal of the 2015 season is to prepare for Rio 2016. The Olympic Games are ahead of us and I am using every chance to get ready for it. I am still not sure if I will have the chance to represent my country at the Games--as we have selection matches in China--but I am trying my best to be atop of the list."

The other winners in the rifle shooting match include Barbara Engleder of Germany (32) who got the bronze medal with 449.8 points, leaving Italy's Petra Zublasing (25)--ranked second in the world--in fourth place with 437.7 points.

Chang's teammates Yi Siling and Fang Chen won the fifth and sixth place, with 425.2 and 413.4 points, respectively.

Chan and His Lucky Shirt Win The Eternal Courtyard Open
2015-05-17

201505138011706.446.jpg

ZHENGZHOU, China—Shih Chang Chan has done a lot of winning over the last two seasons, however despite several close calls he hadn’t picked up a Ping An Bank China Tour – PGA TOUR China Series title. He can now cross that off his things-to-do list.

And the Legend of the Lucky Shirt lives.

201505138011912.040.jpg

(Chan kisses the trophy with his lucky shirt)

Sunday at The Eternal Courtyard Open, Chan donned his signature blue polka-dot shirt that he had worn for six of his previous victories. The shirt—and his strong play—came through again as the Chinese Taipei native won the tournament by three shots over China’s Xin Jun Zhang. Chan, the 324th-ranked player in the Official World Golf Ranking and a three-time Asian Development Tour winner in 2014, used a four-birdie stretch to close his front nine at St. Andrews Golf Club. He then kept his foot on the gas on the back nine to shoot an 8-under 64. The victory is Chan’s 10th as a professional and will move him inside the top 300 once the new OWGR list comes out Monday.

It was a story of two different sets of 36 holes for Chan. He opened 71-77 when strong winds dominated play during the first two days. With the wind laying down on the weekend, Chan made his move, entering the weekend tied for 23rd. He shot a 67 Saturday to move into a tie for second, and then he held off Zhang, who had a 64 of his own, on the final day. Chan made a routine, two-putt par on the final hole to secure the title.

(Celebrating for winning)

“This week, although my second-round score was 77, I just tried to keep myself in control and hit the ball on the fairway,” Chan said. “I figured if I did that my scores would be better.”

His 67-64 weekend was a case in point. The win also took away the sting of Chan’s disappointing loss at St. Andrews Golf Club a year ago. In that tournament held in September, Chan took a share of the lead into the final round with Hao Tong Li before Chan faltered on his way to a 4-over 76 while watching Li go on to an eight-shot victory.

“Last year, the first three days I played very well, but on the fourth day, the weather was not good,” Chan recalled of that poor final day.

Although Chan had no idea what was transpiring three groups ahead, on No. 18, Zhang at least gave himself a chance at the end, thrilling the crowd in the process. In the fairway bunker on his drive, Zhang hit his approach short on the par 4. But on his third shot, he hit a full-swing flop shot that flew directly into the hole, the crowd roaring its approval.

Zhang was at once happy and disappointed with the finish, his fourth career Ping An Bank China Tour – PGA TOUR Series runner-up showing. His birdie-birdie-birdie-birdie finish was good for a ¥129,600 payday. He moved into third on the Order of Merit.

“Today, I made many birdies, and especially the four on my final four holes helped. My final round at the Volvo China Open gave me a lot of confidence,” Zhang said of his 6-under 66 on the final day at Tomson Shanghai Pudong Golf Club after he struggled through the first three rounds.

The Tour moves to Wuhan next week for the United Investment Real Estate Wuhan Open.

Final-Round Notes

Weather: Overcast and warmer, with a high of 82. Wind SSW between 9-13 mph.

· Playing in his first Ping An Bank China Tour – PGA TOUR Series’ tournament, 54-hole leader John DelPrete never got anything going in his final round after bogeying his opening hole. He shot a 1-over 73 and tied for sixth.

· David Lutterus tied for third with Peter Cooke and Yi Cao after firing a final-round 67 Sunday. The finish was his third top-10 of his career and his career-best performance, bettering a pair fourth-place outings a year ago—at the United Investment Real Estate Wuhan Open and the Chateau Junding Penglai Open.

· Shih Chang Chan, with a second-place finish and a win this year, is atop the Order of Merit, ¥26,573 ahead of second place Josh Geary.

· Monday qualifier Paul Imondi had a solid finish in his Tour debut, shooting 6-under 66 Sunday to tie for sixth. He was one of two players to play bogey-free Sunday. The other was champion Shih Chang Chan.

Tsinghua University Won the Overall Champion of ASC15

SPONSORED CONTENT BY INSPUR
On May 22th, the final round of 2015 ASC Student Supercomputer Challenge (ASC15), the largest supercomputer contest in the world, ended in Taiyuan University of Technology, Taiyuan city, Shanxi province, China. Tsinghua University won the champion, National University of Defense Technology was Silver Winner, Nanyang Technological University from Singapore gained Highest LINPACK, Sun Yat-sen University obtained e Prize Award. Application Innovation Awards were taken by Tsinghua University, National University of Defense Technology, National Tsinghua University and Shanghai Jiaotong University, and Best Presentation went to Taiyuan University of Technology.

Tsinghua University Won the Overall Champion of ASC15

ASC15 was co-oragnized by Asia Supercomputer Community, Inspur Group and Taiyuan University of Technology. Since the grand launching in Nov. 2014, there had been 152 teams of 135 universities from 6 different continents had registered for the ASC15, with an increase of 85% to those of ASC14. What’s more, the number of overseas universities reached 47, increasing 135% to that of last year. After tough competition in the preliminary round, 16 teams worldwide were qualified for the finals, which was held from May 18th to May 22th.

At the closing ceremony, Prof. Mo zeyao, the chairman of evaluation committee, made a decription of the competition process. He suggested that as a group, the performance of all the participating teams this year improved a lot than ever before, and many universities in the world had excellent performance on supercomputing application innovation. Members of Tsinghua University team were so wonderful that they produced good results on all the 7 questions and finally won the champion with a large superiority on total grade. Nanyang Technological University from Singapore accomplished impressive high performance on Linpack, 11.92 Tflop/s and broke the world record under 3000W power budget. As for the most eye-catching e Prize, it adopted SKA (square kilometer array telescope) data processing application Gridding. The e Prize Winner Sun Yat-sen University successfully optimized the codes and correctly computed all the three workloads, which increased 600 times of the original application performance and decreased to 1/20 of the previous system energy consumption. Therefore, this accomplishment provided SKA—the largest astronomy international cooperation project all over the world with outstanding and efficient supercomputer designing suggestion.

Mr. Wang endong, the initiator of ASC and chief scientist in Inspur Group, believes that supercomputer currently gets closer and closer relations with many other fields, such as science and technology, economy and culture etc.. As a result, the supercomputer will become the key technology after the Internet, making important influence on all aspects of the society. Meanwhile, ASC will give a strong impetus to supercomputering application development and talents’ cultivation not only in China but also for the rest of the world.

Prof. Lv Ming, the president of Taiyuan University of Technology thinks that ASC15 encourages more and more college students to learn, understand and love supercomputer—-the cutting-edge technology. Also, this competition will have a significant boost for interdisplinary academic study and talents’ cultivation in universities and prompting students’ creativity and innovation.

ASC Student Supercomputer Challenge, which is initiated and organized in China and supported by relative experts and institutes in Asian, European and American countries, aims to promote the supercomputing talents’ communication and cultivation in various regions and countries. Its goals also include to advance the supercomputing application and developing ability, to elaborate driving science and technological force of supercomputer, and to promote the scientific and industrial innovation. After four-year growth, ASC has become the largest supercomputer contest.

ASC15 Final Will Issue¥250,000 Award
SPONSORED CONTENT BY INSPUR

On May 18, 2015, the 2015 ASC Student Supercomputer Challenge (ASC15) final will be held in Taiyuan University of Technology, Shanxi province, China. Students of 16 university teams from all over the world will compete for six type awards including the Champion, the Silver Prize, the e Prize Computing Challenge Award, the Highest Linpack Award, the Best Presentation Award, and the Innovation Award. It is reported that ASC15 final’s awards reach about 250,000 Yuan, which also makes this competition unique in the supercomputer competition history.

ASC15 finals include a number of famous universities in the world, therefore the fierce toughness is unavoidable. Tsinghua University that repeatedly won the ASC and ISC Champions, National Tsing Hua University that is the only SC Champion in the final, the ASC14 Silver Prize winner Nanyang Technological University, and Massachusetts Green Team (MIT, Boston University, Northeastern University, U.S.) are all possible to win the Champion. Kasetsart University, joining in the ASC for the very first time, has qualified for the finals after beating many Asian, European and American teams. Kasetsart is regarded as dark horse in the ASC15 and will set a new record for ASC if it wins the Champion.

It is said that the ASC15 finalists will face multiple challenges in the final. They should finish supercomputer system design and construction under 3000W power consumption budget, and benchmark Linpack through the HPL. At the same time, the final will also test each team’s understanding of applications, ask them to finish five popular application optimizations, and test its effects by practical operation results. What’s more, each team will also have to deal with a mysterious application announced during the final, which will comprehensively test their knowledge structure and performance level on spot.

Dr. JI (Kitty) Qing, the director of the Asia Supercomputer Community, said that to won the ASC Champion is a wide-ranging reflection of the ability for a team, which includes knowledge to design and build supercomputer system, experiences of optimizing application, code and system, depth of understanding of the application, capability to do English presentation for overall scheme and so on. So a team may miss the champion due to any mistaking in any step.

In addition to the Champion, the e Prize computing challenge award is also most-watched. In order to encourage the young talents to boldly create technology innovation, solve supercomputer application problems, challenge the limits of computing performance and use supercomputers to promote application breakthroughs in science, engineering, and data analysis, ASC has established e Prize Computing Challenge Award to the team that completes massive parallel optimization for the specified application and achieve the highest scalability in the competition. This e Prize in ASC15 final will be issued to the Gridding application from the SKA science application.

A new change in this competition is that the ASC Committee has specially established presentation award to reward the outstanding teams in the presentation part of the competition. Competition presentation, as a part of competition, mostly reflects the international character of the ASC, in which representatives will do report of their competition plans in English. That is a big challenge for Chinese teams and it is quite usual for them to lose points in the view of many previous competitions.

After four-year development, the ASC Student Supercomputer Challenge has become the top supercomputer competition that owns the most participants, the most perfect format, and the highest level worldwide. The number of participating teams reach 152, and the growth rate up to 85% compared with 82 teams last year. Based on increasing participants and growing impacts, the ASC rapidly popularize supercomputer related tech and application to the ordinary.

China claim gold in inaugural Asian Women’s U23 Championship

Manila, Philippines, May 9, 2015 – China secured the gold medal after defeating Thailand in the final of the Rebisco U23 Asian Women’s U23 Volleyball Championship powered by PLDT Home and Smart Live More at the PSC Philsports Arena on Saturday.

China pulled off a 3-1 (27-25, 21-25, 25-21, 25-11) triumph over Thailand, led by outside hitter Liu Yanhan, who charted 28 points to end a prolific scoring performance in the competition.

The match started evenly as both sides took set victories until China pushed harder to control Thailand. China dictated the tempo and managed to keep Thailand at bay in the next two sets as Liu put on a scoring show for the winning team.

Ajcharaporn Kongyot and Chatchu-on Moksri, scored 18 and 17 points, respectively, for Thailand.

China and Thailand have qualified to the FIVB Volleyball Women’s U23 World Championship in Ankara, Turkey from August 12 to 19.

Korea bagged the bronze medal after their 3-0 (26-24, 25-23, 25-15) defeat of Japan. The first and second sets were a close fight between the two teams, but Korea had the better end game to secure the set victories.

Japan became weary in the third set as the Korean defence strengthened, which enabled Korean playmaker Cho Songhwa to create good combination plays for her hitters Lee Soyoung and An Hyeri, who scored 14 points apiece.

“We started slow in the game,” Korea captain Cho Songhwa said. “We were able to win because we adjusted on our reception and on our block.”

Chinese Taipei finished in fifth place after a 3-0 (25-17, 25-23, 25-9) win over India. Chinese Taipei got their biggest challenge in the second set as India asserted its efforts to challenge their opponents until two strong offensive moves sealed the set victory.

“The Indian team is getting better and better,” Chinese Taipei coach Lin Ming-Hui said. “In the future, they will be a strong contender.”

In the third set, Chinese Taipei gained more control over their rivals and limited the Indians to a 25-9 score.

“Our goal was to play in the semifinals but we did not achieve that,” coach Lin added. “Hopefully, we will do better next time.”

The Philippines ended their tournament campaign in seventh place with a 3-0 (25-15, 25-21, 26-24) triumph over Iran. The Filipinos played with control and focus in each set, but got a scare from Iranian side late in the third set as the opponents tied the score at 20-all, and Iran took the lead briefly at 21-20. Another deadlock was set at 24-all until the Philippines nailed the final points to end the set and match.

“Our coach told us to focus and enjoy the game,” Philippines captain Alyssa Valdez said. “It was good that we won against Iran and it was a bonus for us to win in straight sets. It’s good day for Philippine Volleyball.”
