The Taihang is still only equivalent to 1980s American engines it is not very advanced until future variants start appearing.

Can indian learn to build its own engine of similar ability by 2080?

This is false news. The Russians are doing a sales pitch without having signed any contract. This is just Russian propaganda to sell their crap.

Yes we are already working with french firm Snecma in developing a new jet engine and it will be more advanced as this is a new project not 1980's tech like yours.

Sources please.

Indians are good at doing things in a long time. They spend 30 years trying to find a way to put together foreign particles into a shape of plane called Tejas or 40 years to assemble mere a tank, Ajun. This engine project with cooperation with french maybe a good gift for your 100 anniversary of independent.

The Snecma deal for the Tejas engine hasn't even finished yet. The planned co-op for the fifth gen engine hasn't even started yet. That is to say, France cannot even produce 5th gen engine itself, only the US and Russia can.

Thanks for the clarification.

I guess this article proves it:

only the US can.

Fixed, only US had its 5th gen jet engine certificated, i am yet waiting to see the Russian one.

The 117, as a same core design with AL-31, is not a true 5th gen jet engine.

Our chinese new 4 gen medium-class turbofan engine ws1x(108kn) come from new CJ2000 core engine which have already tested on the test-bed now.
French M88 is only a 3 gen medium-class turbofan engine and M88-3 isnot from a new core engine.

well .....your indians turbofan can cooperate with our china.

In a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha on August 8, 2011 Defense Minister Shri A.K. Antony clarified that DRDO is yet to enter into an agreement with Snecama for developing the Kaveri K10 engine.

"However, DRDO is negotiating with M/s Snecma, France for co-development and co-production of Kaveri aero engine for the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas MK-II. The project proposal will be put up for Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) approval after the completion of price negotiation.

"Indian Air Force (IAF) has been consulted at every stage and is part of negotiation. IAF has cleared the Kaveri engine co-development proposal with M/s Snecma, France. The draft engine technical specification has been examined and cleared by IAF. IAF has further suggested that the engine design should have minimal impact on the LCA Tejas airframe for future retrofitment."

No, thanks.

Enjoy your engine with your China.

J-10As still need those AL-31FNs. Second batch of J-10Bs will probably use WS-10 instead.

The only thing indian can do is talk, talk talk talk talk....
