Vietnam formally accused China of violating its sovereignty and a recent confidence-building pact on Saturday by landing a plane on an airstrip Beijing has built in a contested part of the South China Sea.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Le Hai Binh said China had conducted a test-flight to the airfield, "built illegally on Fiery Cross Reef, which is part of Vietnam's Spratlys".

In a statement, he called it "a serious infringement of the sovereignty of Vietnam on the Spratly archipelago, contrary to the common perception of high-ranking leaders of the two countries and (to) an agreement on the basic principles for directly solving maritime issues between Vietnam and China".

Vietnam handed a protest note to China's embassy and asked China not to repeat the action, Binh said.

The two communist-led states' competing claims in the South China Sea came to a head in 2014 when Beijing parked an oil rig off the Vietnamese coast, leading to anti-China riots.

Late last year, China completed an airfield on Fiery Cross Reef that security experts say could accommodate most Chinese military aircraft.

Chinese President Xi Jinping visited Hanoi in November, at a time of uncertainty over what kind of leader will emerge from this month's five-yearly congress of the Vietnamese communist party, traditionally close to Beijing but now getting intense Western attention, from the United States in particular.

Both sides agreed during Xi's visit to maintain peace in the sea and build a relationship of trust.

China claims almost all the South China Sea, which is believed to have huge deposits of oil and gas, and through which about $5 trillion in ship-borne trade passes every year, and has been building up military facilities on the islands it controls.

As well as Vietnam and China, Brunei, Malaysia, the Philippines and Taiwan also have claims.

What's the matter? The South China Sea is now becoming China's shooting range for its SLBM.

Defense Ministry responds to intercontinental missile test near South China Sea

BEIJING, April 21 (ChinaMil) -- "It is normal for China to execute scientific experiments within its territory, and these experiments are not aimed at any specific country nor target," according to the Information Affairs Bureau of the Ministry of National Defense (MND) of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) on April 21, 2016.

It was reported that China test-fired a type of intercontinental missile near the South China Sea on April 12. "It is normal for China to execute scientific experiments within its territory, and these experiments are not aimed at any specific country nor target," the MND claimed on April 21 when responding to the media.

"The so-called test location reported by the media is pure conjecture," the MND stressed

Other nations may have the wonderful idea copying your thought too.

I would disagree about master-slave relationship you ascribe to China-Russia strategic partnership.

It is no where close to that; in fact, the idea of Russia's being an Asian nation and hence its place is in the East Asia with China being the mainstay of relationships is a century old idea. The last revival has been under Mr. Putin and there is no going back.

the history of China and Russia is history of distrusts and confrontations. there is no such a thing "century old idea" Sino-Russia comradeship. today the own weakness drives the russians closer to China, because there is a need for. it is like Russia cooperated with its enemies UK and France to counter Germany in the last century. all just for own strategic interests.

should America and Russia ease tension tomorrow, thing will change quickly. maybe you are the next enemy of Russia.

So what's the point you're trying to make in your rant?

So what's the point you're trying to make in your rant?
the point is:

- there is no difference whether the rapist is from China or America. America being bad does not give you the free hand to do what you like. you can´t use this excuse.
- nations usually act upon own egoistic interests. so Russia. nevertheless, expecting Russia to support you to bully other smaller nations in the region is ways too far, too optimistic.
- China can´t expect others to stay peaceful if she advances aggressions. slamming them as being slaves, pawns to America if they seek to protect themselves is really ridiculous, to say the least. does China expect them to be defenceless?
