China says Rohingya issue should not be 'internationalised'
28 September 2018 — 1:18pm

Beijing: The Rohingya issue should not be complicated, expanded or "internationalised", China's top diplomat said, as the United Nations prepares to set up a body to prepare evidence of human rights abuses in Myanmar.

The UN Human Rights Council voted on Thursday to establish the body, which will also look into possible genocide in Myanmar's western state of Rakhine.

China, the Philippines and Burundi voted against the move, whose backers said it was supported by more than 100 countries.

Over the last year, more than 700,000 Rohingya Muslims have fled the Buddhist-majority countryto neighbouring Bangladesh following a military response to attacks on security posts by Rohingya insurgents.

The United Nations has called Myanmar's actions "ethnic cleansing", a charge Myanmar rejects, blaming Rohingya "terrorists" for most accounts of atrocities.

China has close relations with Myanmar, and backs what Myanmar officials call a legitimate counter-insurgency operation in Rakhine. Beijing has helped to block a resolution on the crisis at the UN Security Council.

Speaking to Bangladesh Foreign Minister Abul Hasan Mahmood Ali and Myanmar's minister of the office of the State Counsellor Kyaw Tint Swe in New York on Thursday, China's State Councillor Wang Yi said the Rakhine issue was a complex, historical one.

"The Rakhine state issue is in essence an issue between Myanmar and Bangladesh. China does not approve of complicating, expanding or internationalising this issue," Wang said, according to a Chinese foreign ministry statement issued on Friday.

China hopes that Myanmar and Bangladesh can find a resolution via talks, and China is willing to continue to help provide a platform for this communication, he added.

"The international community, including the United Nations, can also play a constructive role on this," Wang said.

The statement added that UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres also attended the meeting, held on the sidelines of a UN summit.

I utterly agree. Rohingya's are actually the trouble causers. They with support of their traiterous Banglas are causing problems for Myanmar. Pakistan should stand by China like 'ironclad' brother and support Beijing to sort out these terrorist Rohingyas.

And thank you China. :china:

Myanmar should be punished so other developing countries don't undertake such ethnic cleansing.

Bengali should also nationalize biharis and give them status of ethnic minority.

.
Well its chian personal decision but I met with rohghiniya muslims and were crying about themselves.
Its my personal opinion nothing more

China never denies the existence of that problem, only differs with the west on how to solve the problems. Whenever US is involved in a regional conflict, it will only make the conflict worse.

Yeah it should be resolved peacefully

Is anyone talking about creating war on the savages?

If US wanted they could flatten Myanmar tomorrow and China
could do nothing but cry.

All that is required is for the perpetrators to be brought to justice.
China should stop trying to obstruct justice.

They tried in Vietnam and China was involved in many ways.

If the US Navy was to bomb Myanmar using a couple of aircraft carriers, what could you do?
USN attacks for 48 hours, devastates Myanmar and then leaves.

You are still a developing country and way behind US global power.

Ask them to do so then, you sound like a guy who wields more global power than any countries.

China is on the wrong here imo. What is happening in Myanmar is objectively atrocious and unacceptable. It is also much more than an "internal matter".

China has the power to persuade both parties on a peaceful and timely resolution on this matter. The fact that Myanmar is actually a strategic partner means that China has even more powers than diplomatic persuasion towards them to solve this. It has the power to pressure the situation.

Not necessarily.

US-led forces liberated Kuwait from Iraq in 1991 in a span of 45 days, and this war was brilliantly executed on the whole. Vietnam War was a valuable teacher.

Kosovo War (1998 - 1999) also ended well for the oppressed entities after intervention from NATO, with liberation of Bosnia and Herzegovina from (former) Yugoslavia.

NATO also made it possible for the Libyan rebels to topple Qaddafi-led regime in Libya without much bloodshed. This operation was also brilliantly executed.

Every conflict is different and respective outcome may vary.
