The real China's defense budget is around $120~160 billion a year, roughly 2.5% of GDP.

Having said this, China's military is surprisingly expensive to run. While one would think China's military gear cost a fraction of the US ones, they also last a fraction, and stuff like jet engines have to be replaced every 1000 hours, instead of 3~4000 hours like US jets. So the PLA's acquisition and maintenance is roughly the same as the US budget, which explains why China's military power still can't match that of the US.

U.S. media said the Chinese WS-10A engine life over Russia’s lack of production but « Military of China, force comment.

China claims, WS-10A is better than AL-31F; but the article that China is the engine used on Russian technology; and China said they made significant improvements. For example, Russian-made AL-31 engine’s life expectancy was only 900 hours, while China improved design, the WS-10A of the life expectancy of 1500 hours

Both Russian AL-31 and Chinese WS-10A are terribly short in service life, so you need to burn through three to four engines while an American jet burns through single engine.

Same thing with the airframe. The US airframes are for 8,000 hours standard with 12,000 hour after an extension and F-15E is rated for 20,000 hours. This is why you see stuff like B-52 and KC-135 flying for 70 years. Chinese airframes are typically rated for 3,000 hours.

Yea, the Chinese sub look all business and scary while the Korean one is for shows.

we should develop more and more strategy weapons, such as nuclear weapons. why russia is so powerful while it's not a economic power? because it has the second largest nuke weapons in the world. no body can look down upon it. china should learn from russia on this topic.

Russia's stockpile is outdated, we have developed the more sophisticated ones like DF-41 and JL-3, meanwhile we have the best miniaturized warhead in the world.
